Question Sansamp Bass Driver DI w/ SVT-CL, anyone?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm considering getting a Bass driver DI and running it in the effects loop section in this order: Effects loop out-Bass Driver DI-dbx160a compressor-effects loop in. Anyone out there run a setup like this and use the DI/XLR of the SVT-CL for the out to the PA/to record?

Wouldn't it be a little redundant having a Sansamp AND an SVT? The Sansamp has tube emulation circuitry in it, but you don't really need that with an SVT-CL, and the CL has a DI built in. I don't see much need for one with your setup.

It's hardly redundant... I know plenty who carry a SansAmp as a backup to their entire rig, as well as a few who rely on the SansAmp for easy studio recording.

I also mentioned the potential for some great bi-amped tones through running both a SansAmp and a miked SVT rig into the mixer.

And there's a few who use the SansAmp as an overdrive pedal with an Ampeg rig... but that, I could see as being problematic to a degree. But some people like it, so...

I can see it from both the redundant and non-redundant angles. I've always liked my tone w/ the SVT-CL, but I saw a guy this past weekend who used a BDDI and his tone was badass, but then again he was using a yamaha bass w/ active electronics through the BDDI into the sound board. I plan on getting one even if it doesnt sound great w/ the rig I have if for no other reason than to have a backup or for recording. Just wanted to know if anyone else was using this setup w/ any degree of success.

I think you can't go wrong owning one. Even if its not used all the time. Some nic einsurance to know that you can go direct to the PA and have a reasonable if not actually very nice sound with no messing around.
