Question SANSAMP bass driver programmable

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings did a search didn't see anything on this topic, so...
I usually just read but never post.

I bought a sansamp bassdriver DI programmable. I had never used one, but I needed help in the tone arena. So everything I read said this was the way to go. I perform at a local church and I play through the PA and my AMP. I use the AMP is a personal monitor.

This is my setup:
G&L 2500 bass (active pickups disabled)
SansAMP DI programmable.
AMpeg 100W
I plug my bass into the IN port, and my OUT goes to my AMP. The PA is connected to XLR out.

Here is the dilemma. When I'm experimenting with my sound, I get it where it sounds pretty decent. But when I'm actually performing with other band members, my AMP will start to farting out sometimes. In order to stop the popping noise I have to play real lightly, which sucks because I like to hit the strings hard.

I’m probably doing something wrong or not aware of something, anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks,

It sounds like there is a problem with the amp. Did you try disengaging the 1/4" output boost? What are your settings on the Sansamp?

Sounds like you have a battery with enough charge to sound good for a short while but runs out of power after a while and farts out. Do the farty sounds first start when you hit the lower notes? I'd check your battery. Then that you are connected properly, then your cables.
I'm not a huge sansamp fan anymore but it should be good for what you are using it for and it should work how you want it to. Something is wrong.

The output boost is disabled and it does happen when I hit the low notes. Another way to make the popping to stop is to play in the higher register and it also goes away. Im thinking it could be my bass. When I try using a cheapy squire 4 banger, it doesn't seem to do it.

A really hot signal can start the Sansamps clipping - maybe try turning the EQ/Volume down on your bass a bit.

The G&L's have notoriously high output on them (even in passive mode) That might be causing the sansamp some problems. Like you said, if another bass isn't giving you this problem, there you go.

..I have the same prob with the combination telecaster bass (the one with the big humbucker on the neck) - bassdriver - warwick wp3-7 preamp. the output of the bass is huge for a passive one. i have to switch of the boost and also reduce the drive and level settings when iam playing this beauty. the big advantage on the wp3-7 is the "linear" switch. if your ampeg can't switched linear, try to set the amp as linear as possible and work around with the sans eq.

I did the same thing a behringer combo. The speakers couldn't handle all of the signal coming from the sansamp. Turn your output level down.

Are you running the L2.5K in parallel or series? I find in series mode I have to dial the volume down to about 70-80%, and I have my pickups wound down as far as they go. They're VERY high output basses.

Are you running the sansamp in front of the Ampeg's preamp? If you are, check to see if the sansamp is on the "line" level output. This is the setting used for driving a poweramp, and can clip a preamp if put in front of it. just switch it to the "intrument" level output and you should be good.

It took me a while to figure that one out, and couldn't understand why everything I played through sounded farty.
