Sansamp Bass Driver vs. Hartke Bass Attack VXL vs. Xotic BB Bass Preamp?

So I've done some searching, some playing and most importantly, some listening and IMHO the best bass overdrive/preamps out there are the Tech 21 Sansamp Bass Driver, the Hartke Bass Attack VXL, and the Xotic BB Bass Preamp. I'm wondering which you prefer? Or a completely different one all together.

I have heard the VT is, well more SVT sounding/Ampeg sounding. Supposed to emulate that. Do search for Tech 21 VT and you will see plenty in the effects threads on the VT for sure.

I was able to use and test the BDDI alongside the VXL for about a month. I dialed in the sound I wanted on the BDDI and was able to duplicate it on the VXL using essentially the same settings. The more I played with it the more I realized the controls on the VXL are almost exactly those on the BDDI, just renamed. The Drive, Blend, and Presence on the BDDI is very similar to the Harmonics, Mix, and Brite on the VXL, respecitvely, but the VXL adds the Shape circuitry which IMO defines the Hartke sound. The biggest difference is the VXL is NOT bypassable -- even with both switches off, the bass and treble controls are still active. Could be a dealbreaker for some.

I know a lot of people swear by their BDDI, and I can understand why. But personally I didn't find anything on the BDDI that wasn't on the VXL for $100 cheaper.

the VT also doesn't have an xlr output standard on it, which I know the hartke and sansamp both have

None will 100% reproduce the sound of an overdriven tube pre, but the Hartke is the best bang for your buck. It's quiet, versatile and has a DI. My only gripe is the EQ is always on in the circuit. Not a big deal if you like the pedal always on.

The Tech 21 sounds too harsh for me. BTW I play P-basses with my fingers. I know a guy who plays a Jazz with a pick and swears by the Tech 21.

If you like tube-emulated sounds but your on a tight budget, the hartke vxl bass attack preamp pedal would be a good choice.
