Sansamp Bass Driver Vs. Tech 21 VT Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys

Looking for a pedal that will help mold my tone. I've heard nothing but great things about both pedals, but which would you guys prefer? Thanks

I use a Sansamp BDDI, and i absolutely love it. But it seems that most people on TB prefer VT Bass..

the VT Bass has a much stronger mid range presence than the BDDI because the BDDI has a bit of a scooped-mids kind of tone. i think they did that to kind of emulate the warm SVT tone w/ the BDDI.

But i also hear the BDDI is more versatile in tone shaping than the VT bass. like... the BDDI will get you a bunch of different great sounding tones and the VT Bass will get you a single or a very few AMAZING tones.

That said, I have no complaints about my BDDI and i love it.

Both are great pedals, IMO.

I use the Bass Driver Programmable because of the flexibility offered by storing presets in the 3 channels and the XLR connection. Also, I don't need as much gain as the VT offers.

Hope this helps

If you don't want/need the XLR output go with the VT bass. If you want an XLR output then go with the BDDI or, if you want a mid control, ParaDriver DI.

BDDI: OK but doesn't quite do what it claims

VT: Pedal of the future

Love my BDDI......get's the tones I'm after and having the XLR gives me a back up if my amp should ever go "tit's up" during a gig.

I had a BDDI and personally didn't care for it... but I really dig the VT bass.

I have a BDDI, it's ok. Doesn't knock my socks off. I'm still trying to decide between the VT or a Tone Hammer. Too bad I don't have the money to get both!

Ditto. Not only that, but I had a BDDI, ended up tossing it for a Programmable BDDI, then added an XXL bass, but didn't care for it all that much. Apparently the VT is a cross between a BDDI and XXL (ironic), and I love it. It's on almost all the time!

I have both and imho the VT sounds warmer than the BDDI.

Warm-sounding Jazz Bass + GEB7 EQ + BDDI = Music to my ears!

Ahh.... so there is where the difference in price comes into play. I'm going with the VT. Only thing I think I might do is strip the finish of it (so it's bare metal or just go with a flat-black) and give it a one-off/homemade look. Maybe re-label the controls for the hell of it. This may be the pedal that keeps me from going crazy and buying an all-tube amp .

Well it's your pedal, but I think that's wack. It's one of the prettiest pedals out there. But if you do it, just let me know if you ever decide to sell it. I'll be happy to take it off your hands for a fraction of what you could have sold it for with the finish

Especially with the Drive knob turned up just enough for some grit. Goodness Gracious!

Really? I think it's one of the uglier pedals I've seen...

It's half B-15 blue checker tolex, half SVT blue/silver grillcloth! What's ugly about that?
