Sansamp BDDI, PDDI, clipping?

Sign in to disble this ad
A few years ago I owned a BDDI but ultimately sold it. With a more aggressive finger style and hotter pickups (EB/MM Stingray 5, G&L L2000) I was clipping/overloading the input. No matter how I set the Blend, Drive and other controls, I couldn’t NOT distort the signal. I had to back off on the effect almost entirely or turned my bass volume down. I didn’t like having to accommodate the effect like this.

I was curious if the Para Driver DI was similar in this regard? I haven’t been able to demo one close by, but the mid EQ sounds like a great feature for me. If the input can handle a hotter signal without clipping, then I may go out and find one to demo.

Not sure about the Para;

But I found the way around the clipping was simple. Put some kind of buffer before the Sansamp. I use a wah. Problem no more.

I hadn't used it with other effects, but I now have a Demeter Comp Pedal that perhaps I can use to buffer it a bit.

That's bizarre. I've got an EBMM Stingray and a BDDI and can easily run it without any clipping. Maybe it was something simple like an old battery?

I was actually using a power supply with it instead of a battery. I tend to play pretty aggressively, so it could be more my playing than anything else. This is not the only effect that I have clipped.

Also, because the unit has overdrive features built in, I could perhaps be crossing "drive" threshold even when I have it most of the way down. Not sure ...

After reading this - I went back and plugged straight into the Sans.

Couldn't get it to clip unless I maxed ALL the controls on the bass - which I never do. Hmmmmm. But I do remember getting it to clip back when I first got it..........
Not sure about it now.
