Sansamp BDDI: using with other effects pedals

Sign in to disble this ad
At my church all instruments are direct to FOH - no amps on stage. Monitoring is done with an Aviom system. I use a Sansamp programmable BDDI to set my tone and send the signal to the mixing console. I also use a chorus pedal and a compressor pedal in the signal chain. Currently I run Bass > compressor > chorus > BDDI so that all the effects are available to the DI. However, I would really like to put my chorus after the EQ on the BDDI. I assume the only way to actually do this is to add a dedicated DI like a Radial J48 or Countryman Type 85 and not use the DI on the Sansamp. Then the signal chain would be: bass . compressor > BDDI > chorus > DI.

Just wondering if anyone has a different or novel idea or solution.

Additionally, the BDDI Deluxe has an effects loop. Does anyone know if the loop is pre or post EQ?

Any additional recommends for a dedicated DI are also appreciated but I am currently not choosing to go with something like an Avalon U5 or UA Solo/610 although I do drool a little over those babies.

The Bass Driver Deluxe's EFX loop is post SansAmp and EQ circuitry and would do what you want. Your first solution with an additional DI box would be the less expensive solution if you don't need the additional features of the BD Deluxe.

My suggestion would be to plug your pedals directly into the mixer via the 1/4" inputs at a sound check and see if it's really worth the extra effort to put the chorus after the Bass Driver. To me the difference between the sound of a chorus in front of an amp or in the loop is more about chocolate vs vanilla as opposed to right or wrong.

Yeah, actually I'm left wondering what you'd gain or lose by rearranging the order the way you described. I'm inclined to think...not much.

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree that in the current setting the difference of effect placement may be negligible. I'm probably just bored with my setup and looking for a reason to try something different. Or maybe a little GAS and trying to spend money I don't have.

I think I will try to hookup through an unbalanced input to see what it sounds like. Funny thing is I don' actually use the chorus all that much anyway.
