Seems that I prefer the Behringer sound two out of three times. That's good since I own the unit. |

Better than owning one and wanting the other; |

| | | | I'm not really a bass player, but I bought an old Ibanez Roadstar II and a bdi21 for some home recording use.
I haven't been able to get the sound I'm looking for yet from the bdi21, but I sure do hear it on your first 2 takes.
To me, the sansamp stands out for having a more pure sound, but I wouldn't feel too bad getting the sound you did out of my bdi21
No doubt the axe and the player have much to do with this too.
Should I be playing the bass active or passive while recording through the unit to come close to the sound you've recorded, or does it not matter?
Also I'm using a 16 Layla soundcard. How big a difference would going to 24 bit be, when recording bass? |

I don't know if it's better passive or active, I think it depends on the output volume of your bass, cause both the BDDI and the BDI21 are sensitive to the touch, the more harder you play, the more od you get, so, if the bass has an high output, to have a clean sound try to set up the drive a little bit low:
this is the setting I used on the second sample of the bdi:
(o'clock)
blend max
drive 12
treble 13
bass 11
presence 13/14
the volume depends on your audioboard
i'm recording trough my laptop audioboard, believe me, nothing special, it's a Realtek ac'97 I believe, and I'm using Cool Edit pro 2 as software, as you can see, no professional stuff...the Rick does the rest...and the player sucks
I don't even know HOW I'm recording...bit etc....
what configuration of pu you have on the roadstar?
if it's a PJ, use both the pu, and try the passivemode at first,
let me know  |

| | | I dunno, I like the Sansamp overdrive better. It sounds more organic and ruder. The Behringer overdrive sounds a little boxy and sterile to my ears. |

Plenty of signal for both the amp and house. Man, pretty nice emulation of an SVT. I think I'll use it again for tonight's gig and give my Eden preamp another rest. Well worth the $30. |

I sold my Sansamp for $150 and bought a Behinger for $20, and apart from it being made of plastic I like it better in every way. It's funny, my pedal board is 1/2 high end effects (Moog, EH) and 1/2 Behringer. |

Setting for muff: Sustain: about half tone: about half
and the BDI flat with a mild distortion.
That'd be awesome. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
