A fello TB'er asked me about uses for presets on Deluxe models of Tech21 sansamps. I haven't needed all 6 presets so I find creative ways to put them to good use. What other uses have you guys thought up?
Here are some tricks: Trick #1 Boost) Save preset 1A as overdrive, then switch over to channel 1B while the knobs are still in the same position. Turn the knob just enough for the device to notice (the LED will start blinking), then turn the knob back to it's previous position. This makes it easy to copy a preset onto another channel. From there I turn up the drive and a few other knobs and save the preset. Now I can go from: channel 1A overdrive, to channel 1B boosted overdrive, with the press of one button (saves pedalboard space taken up by an additional dirt/boost pedal). For home practice sessions do the opposite. Make channel 1B a quieter version of 1A. Trick #2 Mid-Song effects) Similar to above. Save preset 2A, then save a copy to 2B. The pedal will store when the effects loop is on or off. Save 2A with the effects loop off. On channel 2B turn the effects loop on. Usually it takes some focus and coordination to pull off a quick double tap to turn on the effects loop. Now you can switch between having the effects on/off with one button press. Useful for a brief mid-song passage that uses modulation. Additionally, if the modulation has an inherent volume drop/boost adjust the level to compensate. Also, make minor adjustments to the EQ so the modulation stands out more and then re-save the preset. More uses for extra presets: #3 Recording) Save an ongoing recording session setup, so each time you come back, everything on your end is still exactly the same. #4 "Back Burner" setting). Sometimes I find a setting I like but it just doesn't fit in with what is being played. So I store it for future use and try it out again when the opportunity arrises. #5 Mute) Turn all knobs down. Silences signal sent to amp and to mixer.

For me, I like the idea of having a couple of tones that really work for me, boosted versions of the same, a muted channel, and that "back burner" channel. But once I get mine delivered (it's mid UPS shipment) I may change my mind of course.
Since right now on my pedal board I have a tuner, vol rocker for when I need an extra volume boost, an eq pedal, and an AB switch, looks like it will just be the BDDI Deluxe and the tuner. I may not bother with the board!
Other folks?

Bank A (sterling stingray)
1: Metal tone (a tiny bit of grind),
2: Rock tone (much less treble/presence, sits back in the mix)
3: Boost distortion.
Bank B (Ibanez Iceman)
1: Metal tone
2: Drive tone
3: Mute (doesn't work entirely for some reason...)
It'd be interesting to know how you fellow Deluxe SansAmp BDDI owners reconcile the tone coming from your amp and the DI sound through the PA? I find myself in a real dilemma -I use quite a cutting, high end tone, that still sounds full through my amp, but when DI'ed just sounds tinny and weak, obviously because of the fullrange PA system. Could I put the settings to sound good through a PA, then put an EQ pedal on the output, so it's not being sent to the DI, and I get a good stage sound? |

I would go with whats good to the audience, and as long as I can hear me, then its a victory. But that first part is an option.

I have an M5, that I use for chorus and octaver, and I'm wondering if this will sound good in the loop of the VT?
I will know for sure in a couple days, but curious if any one has tried this combo.

J! | Should sound good. You can create a preset EQ'd to sound best with chorus and your octavier.

Will post more, later.
