Sansamp DI Question...

Sign in to disble this ad
Would it be possible for me to run my bass into the input on the sansamp, and then an xlr-to-1/8" cord from the DI into my soundcard?

Or does the sansamp require some kind of power amp?

That's what it's mainly designed for. No power amp is needed.

Well I'm running it through the mic channel, and I have that channel selected in the recording control...but I'm not getting any sound :\

I want to be able to hear it in my headphones, too....

Don't use the mic channel. Use line in and go to your sound control in windows and unmute whichever you use.

I'm using line in and still not getting any sound. In play control I made sure line in wasn't muted, but I'm not sure which one I'm supposed to select in recording control...midi synth, "what u hear", cd digital, analog mix, microphone, and wave/mp3.

Seems like you would want the mic channel for the DI out, and the line in for the 1/4" out of the Sansamp.

So...one last time.

Bass>sansamp input
Sansamp output>1/4>1/8>line in
DI>xlr>1/4>1/8>mic

right?

Wait, you have two cables connecting the sansamp to the computer? You should have one cable going from the XLR out to either the mic or line in ports on your sound card (try both, I'm not sure which to use.) The sansamp 1/4" output is probably at "instrument level" and probably wont work with your computer's inputs. [I think]

One option that would definately work would be to run the XLR out into a cheap mixer, and then run the mixer's "headphone out" into your microphone port.

For $100 you could get the Lexicon Alpha USB interface (or similar). It's a an easy solution for getting decent quality sound in and out of your computer. Most standard soundcards have pretty crappy quality for music.

Well, but it sounds like he's not getting any signal, at any quality. Which means a few different possibilities:
1) one or more items is defective or broken
2) there is a bad cable
3) the items are not connected right, even if they seem to be, due to some error in identification (an input confused with an output, balanced audio XLR confused with a digital XLR, etc.
4) there is some software problem, either a glitch or some setting that needs to be enabled/disabled.

90% of the time these types of questions get asked it ends up being a software configuration issue.

Either that, or he plugged it into the headphone jack or speaker output jack by accident.
