SansAmp PBDDI Noise

Sign in to disble this ad
I am trying a friends PBDDI. It seems noisy. Lots of hiss. I am using the suggested settings for Fat Tube, B15 and SVT. Is this normal? Will reducing the Presence and or Treble get rid of it? Won't that change the sound a lot?

My amp is a GB Shuttle 6.0-12T combo. Seems to be noisy weather I use the Effects Loop or the Input on front. I would like to like this as I have 2-3 different tones I'd like to have for my gigs, but I hate noise.

One thing I noticed with the Programmable BDDI was that there was some digital-y noise when I would tweak the knobs out of their "saved" positions, but once I re-saved the settings to one of the switches, the noise went away. May want to try that along with Dethrats recommendations.

the two previous posts are good advice. Still, mine is noisy. I'd sell it but it comes in handy when I leave my main rack somewhere and Im forced to use a power amp and the PBDDI.

Well im sure you know that Presence is boost only so if you are putting it @ 12 o`clock its actaully boosted & will increase hiss `alot` Ive heard a heap of people do this with the RBI thinking it should be @ 12 o`clock increasing that mad hiss.
Get an eq setting without the Presence first & then add the presence to taste.

Actually our SansAmp Bass Driver DI Programmable is a very quiet pedal. There are a few things to keep in mind.

When setting it up in front of your bass amp it is best to start with a unity gain setting. This means the bypassed volume of the unit is relatively equal in volume to the sound of the unit engaged. Also remember that when you add gain with the drive knob this will amplify any noise that your bass produces. An easy way to see if it is your bass creating noise is to set up your sound with the BDDI engaged and turn off your bass guitars volume and see if the noise goes away. If you have passive single coil pickups and are in a noisy environment or by a computer monitor this will be a problem. As mentioned the amount of drive you use will also determine if you are getting extra noise with your bass. If you turn the blend control counterclockwise you will have just the direct sound of your bass and you will see if your drive settings are adding additional noise. With hum canceling pickups this shouldn't be a problem.

You mentioned using it with the GB Shuttle which has a gain stage and some EQ shaping. If you run the gain up high on the Shuttle and use the HF Attack that will cause even more noise. You would be best running the Shuttle at a fairly clean and flat setting and use the BDDI for more grit and alternate tonal settings. If you run the BDDI in the efx loop it is best to go to the efx return and only use the BDDI for tone shaping. If you run the Shuttles preamp into the BDDI via the loop you will probably get more noise and less than desired results.

As mentioned be sure that you don't have the 1/4" output boost switch engaged.

The noise when the digital pots are being adjusted is normal.

I had that issue until I ran it to my effects return as opposed to the amp's pre. It was the combination of preamps that generated the noise.

Thanks for those suggestions. I will double check my gain structure.

Ive actaully never had a problem with the RBI or RPM with hiss.I never get any hiss coming through its very quiet. As said a bass does bring on noise so depending how its setup or where you are standing can do it to.
