SansAmp and Peavey

I have been using my BDDI for a few years now, and it is the only "effect" that I really need to have around. In the past, I have been running the BDDI into the low gain input on my Peavey Tour 450 amp. It has always sounded pretty good. The Sansamp manual suggests routing the BDDI into the effects return of the amp. This bypasses the controls on the Peavey making the amp work purely as power amp. It also required me to bend over and adjust the BDDI controls on my pedal board. This was the reason I didn't really like it the last time I tried it.

Last night I put the BDDI on top of the amp (for convenience) and routed it through the effects return as an experiment for band practice.

Wow. It sounded fantastic. The tone was really great. I finally dialed in "just the right amount" of dirt I wanted. By itself, the Tour 450 is a great sounding (warm even) solid state amp... but getting a slight amount of fuzz or distortion requires an effect of some kind. I'm glad I followed the directions that the Sansamp came with.

So, I'm wondering, does anyone else go direct into their amps effects out? Is there another way I can connect things to experiment with?

CHAIN: Fender Jaguar Bass ---> Sansamp BDDI ---> Effects Out Peavey Tour 450

(My apologies if this was better suited to be posted in the amps forum.)
