Is the sansamp rbi just an amp head or do you have to get some more special equipment to hook it up to an amp, first time looking into these info please :3

It is a preamp, so it cannot drive a speaker. Think of it as an effect pedal...just a really elaborate one that fits in a rack space.

You can run it into any amp you have, much like an effect pedal.

It's just a preamp, meaning you'll have to connect it to a power amp to make noise from a speaker cabinet. You can use it by itself for recording or plugging directly into a PA mixer.

Use the search function here. There's tons of people around here that use the rbi.

pickup? It has nothing to do with pickups and I'm not sure where you got that idea from.

Effect pedal. Think of it as one of those.

To view it as a pedal is inaccurate as many pedals still require a preamp. The rbi is good to go into a power amp or you can pad down the gain and put it straight into the mixer.

I use an RBI in front of a Carvin 1000 watter that has a blown out pre in it. I can nail Geddy's sound, but I also use a 74' 4001. Geddy used to use RBIs. I think these days he uses something else though and a couple of Orange heads.

Geddy is using RPM's now plus the Orange AD200's MK3, Avalon DI's and Palmer Speaker Simulators.

See if you can borrow one - for me, I couldn't stand mine after a few days.

I thought the bass control is at a very weird frequency, and the "valve" thing just adds an unpleasant distortion and removes detail from your sound.
