Last. It's the component that brings your signal from "instrument level" up to the level that can drive a power amp. The majority of pedals will distort at those signal levels.

try both, see which sounds better to you.

also, if you have one, you should probably have the manual (unless you bought used), and that should have some valuable info about how to use it, including the recommended order for types of effects in your effects chain. should also have some nifty ideas for settings to try out, and most of them sound pretty good

RBI is a preamp. It's no different than the preamp section of a combo amp.

I agree with superfunk47, you need to try different combinations. Note that RBI has an effect loop so you don't need to sacrifice its XLR out in order to use pedals "after" it; just put those ones in the effects loop.

There's no rule to this but I run my comperssor and overdrive/dist in front of RBI, chorus in the effect loop.

i run distortion + eq in the effects loop, but if I want to have modulation after the distortion, i simply hit the 50/50 out button and it goes from being a blended signal to a straight line from the rbi to the effects to the rbi out into power amp

The only reason I would put it last is because I want my DI to include all effects. Aside from that, put it where you like it better.

As was stated before however, you can run it at a higher output directly into a power amp than you would into a normal effect pedal. Try it in different positions to check at what level it begins to clip your pedals.
