Sansamp RBI help

Sign in to disble this ad
I've only had the Sansamp for a month or so and I had a great sound but after screwing around with it I now have a woofy sound if that make sense? The bass is at 1 o'clock and I've had the drive and presense all over the place but currently drive at 11 and the presence at 9. I screwed around with my rack setup (swr 350 head/ sansamp/korg DTR) and thought maybe I changed something with the way I'm running it, any ideas?

I always used something similar to the SVT settings:

Drive - 11
Presence - 3
Blend - Max
Bass - 1
Mid - 11
Treble - 12

I would modify it depending on the room but that was about it. Everything on the actual amp was set flat.

The sample settings in our manual were done with a vintage passive bass with low output pickups and were done direct to board.

My suggestion to get a better handle on the unit would be to either bypass your amp's preamp and plug the RBI into the power amp return of your bass amp or set your bass amp up for a very flat neutral tone. Bypass any contour or EQ curves.

Then start with the drive at around 9 o'clock , presence at noon, blend all the way up, bass, mids and treble at noon and level to taste. This should give you a basic clean sound. From that point dial in the type of "tonal" response you are looking for. Next start inching up the drive control for the amount of tube amp emulation or grind that you want.

Once you get the type of tone you want out of the RBI it should make it easier to interface with your bass amp. Just remember it's best to use a fairly neutral EQ setting on your bass amp if you intend to use the RBI into your bass amp's preamp section.

That's good to know. I've always thought my passive bass sounded better with my Sansamp settings than my active bass. I tend to use the "Clean Boost" setting for the active bass but I love the "Fat Tube" setting for my passive!
