Sansamp RBI and PBDDI

I currently own both the RBI and PBDDI. At first, I thought the RBI was the same as a Sansamp Bass DI with the addition of a Mid control and XLR output level. But I was wrong!

With the same basses (Squier Jazz/Smith BSR), I can get that farty overdrive that we're all so familiar with via the drive + blend of the pedal version. But the the RBI, I could crank both, and nothing happens, short of feedback. I even tried adjusting the eq, toying with the pad switch (0/-25dB) at the back, to no avail.

Well its not a source of frustration or dissapointment, just curious to know if anyone is aware of something I missed out. Thanks in advance!

Actually, you are wrong in thinking you are wrong... the RBI is even described as being like the BDDI with adjustable mid & XLR by the manufacturer.

What amp are you using? What other effects? What have you done to troubleshoot so far?

Here's what I'd do:
Spray some contact cleaner onto a 1/4" plug and make sure all the jacks are free of corrosion - the FX loop is prone to this on Tech 21 amps, causing volume drops. Plug in your bass to the front input, run your Sansamp 1/4" out direct to the power stage. If it doesn't sound much like a BDDI at this point, the unit is defective.
