How's this as a stand alone preamp? Does it put out good clean tones? I really like the distorted tones I've heard.

Yeah, it can do a really nice clean tone with the gain at or below 9:00'ish. I'm not the best person to ask about clean tones though...

The parametric mid eq is real nice too.

What kind of power amp do most people use? Probally a 810 cab I am thinking would work well.

I used mine with an SVT 3pro as a Poweramp, and also with a Carvin DCM1000. The Ampeg was a little smoother and full sounding, with the Carvin being a little edgier and more sterile, but the Carvin was obviously way louder.

And actually, I'm confusing my RPM experiences with my old RBI. I never tried the RPM with the Carvin.

I love this preamp. Sounds great dirty or clean. I use a 6x10 cab, and a power amp of least 700 watts (Stewart World 2.1, or Crown Xti 2000).

FWIW preamps are usually discussed in the amps forum, you might get more responses over there.
