Sansamp VT Bass - how would it work as a combo amp preamp?

I have a Yorkville XS400T 400w 210 combo amp - it gets great reviews on Harmony-Central but it's not really my sound. How would a VT Bass sound plugged into the FX return? Would that make my amp sound like a tube amp?

It'll get you about 95% of the way there IMHO. There's just something about the way tubes move air that's special and still can't be recreated by SS, and you can't control tone with volume like you can with a tube amp, but as for the tones, yeah, it does an amazing job. Pedal of the future. Just don't make drastic changes during a gig and it will be a fine preamp.

used to do a "poor man's" version of the same thing, just for laughs, with the Behringer BDI21, the Sansamp BDDI copy of Uli's china shop. Ended up using it live, with the XLR out to the board. Very consistent. Any preamp pedal you put into the fx return will bear all the eq and tone of the mix. So, yes, it will sound tubes.

Sounds good! I'm ordering one in the next few days.
