Sansamp VT Bass + Sansamp Programmable BDDI = ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to find a way to layer a distorted signal over the tone I'm getting from my Sansamp VT Bass pedal. I've gotten a lot of suggestions but I either don't like the sound I hear in videos or clips of the suggested pedals, or the suggested pedals are just too expensive.

How about this...

What if I went: bass > Sansamp VT Bass > Sansamp Programmable BDDI?

Could I adjust the blend on the PBDDI and monkey with the bass/treble controls so that I'm layering a distorted signal over the VT signal, without losing the integrity of the original VT signal, or would it make it too bassy/tubey?

I'm wanting to use the VT as the foundational tone and use the PBDDI to add a layer of distortion.

I'm not interested in big fuzz or metal, just an extra bit of distortion in the middle of the signal.

I just purchased a VT Bass. I'm experimenting with running a Tech21 GT2 in font of the VTBass (bass ->GT2->VTBass->DI).

I'm using the VT for a clean, core tone, then kicking the grit in with the GT2. Mine is NOT dialed in yet. I'm having better success just switching pedals, VT clean - GT2 dirty.

I don't like two Sansamps in series at all. I really like the GT2 for distorted bass in recordings. Not as much live, but it records really well. I posted a myspace link recently with a song done primarily with the GT2. TIme to practice.

Those Sansamps are really for tone-shaping. I think you'd be better off with a dedicated overdrive in front of your Sansamp of choice.

That's what I'm learning in my trials here (in previous post). Although. I'm running the board to a DI and using IEM's for live monitoring.

It seems to be either/or but not both. I can set each one up to have different tonal characteristics and run them independently, but not simultaneously.

Personally I prefer mixing clean/overdrive tones together with a blend pedal or line selector pedal.

I'm currently using a boss LS-2 and am happy with the results.

I hadn't thought of using a seperate blend pedal - that sounds like the best idea! That way I can choose the best overdrive/distortion and not the best one that also blends the way I want.

Overdrive with a clean blend perhaps, like the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive or Music Electronix Gemini Drive?
