I have both and they are the two most used pedals on my board. The BDDI gives me a clean tone with the instant ability of adding mild dirt when I need it. It is my almost always on pedal...on about 70% of the time. I run my Ken Smith basses through it. The VT is another pedal is it is almost always on when I use the P and the J basses. Because I don't have an Ampeg SVT amp, this little beauty gives me the best amp simulation.

The only thing I have to complain about the VT, which isn't really a problem but I like to complain, is the fact that there is no xlr on it. But like I said, it really isn't a problem. I run it through a Radial or a Countryman DI.

I've run both pedals straight to a power amp, Aguilar DB 750, and they work flawlessly! And I've run them straight to a mixer, flawlessly!!

I guess to answer your question, the BDDI can give you a clean and mildly dirty tone. The VT will give you a true SVT tone...if that's what you're looking for.

my gripe with the VT is that the case looks super cheap, especially if compared to EHX pedals, and if you use an active bass, you will have a hard time controlling the gain and get a usable sound. When used with a passive old Jazz it was decent but I won't mistake it with a driven SVT. I sold my VT.

I have both.

I've been quite impressed by the VT - but I think the BDDI is gonna be more versatile.
This is all gonna depend on what equipment you use - especially the bass and amp.
And of course - whether you use them as a dirt box or as a pre-amp.
I use mine as a pre- directly into a tube slave.

I personally like both.
I don't think the VT is better than the BDDI - just easier to dial in a sound you like.
BUT - without a blend feature - there are some sounds the BDDI can get that a VT just can't.
It's really up to what you want it for.

For a simple dirtbox - the VT is pretty good. Very easy to adjust in the middle of a live set.
Can't say that a bout the Programmable BDDI, which I'll be selling for that very reason.

As a pre-amp, the PBDDI is waaaay more adaptable than the VT.

But don't trust me - go try one.

I've used a BDDI for the last 6 years. A month ago I bought a VT Bass. After a few gigs and many hours jamming in my basement I've decided I prefer the VT. IMO the VT retains more of your instruments signature sound. It seems to let the high end come through and breathe a little better. I know the BDDI has a blend knob, but it never sounded good unless it was cranked. I still love the BDDI but to me the VT is like version 2.0, simply better in every way. I think the reason it doesn't have a DI is because it would be take away from sales of the original.

I regularly use Ibanez ATKs, and I've never had a problem controlling gain or getting a usable sound. But then again they're fairly low output as far as actives go.

Had the chance to A/B the two for a few days.
I hugely prefered the sound of the VT over the BDDI.
I stuck with the VT as I didn't need the D.I. option anyway.
Build quality might be slightly better with the BDDI.

+1, same here. Both sound great in their own respects.

To Me the BDDI sucked out the mids and I got lost in the mix. I had and sold the Sansamp version and still have a BD121.

I have a new VT bass on order and I'll see what it can do for my tone soon.
