"The Backline FX-Tracker uses a set of sophisticated algorithms to provide a variety of effects that can adjust to your playing speed or your playing volume."

* Up to 70 effects and up to 100 preset locations
* Effect timing and effect depth can react to your playing speed and playing volume
* Six main effects categories including delay, chorus, tremolo, flanger, filter and pitch shifter
* An additional delay effect can be placed before, after or in parallel with any of the six main effect types
* Delay time that can track your playing. Shorter delay with faster playing or longer delays with faster playing
* Your playing speed can change the modulation speed of chorus, tremolo, flanger, filter or pitch shifter
* Your playing speed or your playing volume can change the delay feedback level or the depth of the chorus, tremolo, flanger or filter effects
* Transition between a delay effect and any other effect by changing your playing speed or playing volume
* There are several automatic whammy and dive bomb effects available
* Programmable arpeggiator patterns can provide unique harmony effects
* Several envelope effects for volume, chorus, flanger, filter or pitch shifter
* You can time the second delay effect to the chorus, tremolo, flanger or pitch shifter modulation speed
* You can use two types of delays at once and time them to each other or your playing
* Several different stereo effects including delay, chorus, tremolo and flanger
* Up to 60 seconds of stereo delay time including looping functions
* Full MIDI implementation. Control any parameter with an external MIDI controller or use MIDI messages to select from the 100 presets
* Synchronize a MIDI drum machine to your playing speed
* Output your playing speed or playing volume as MIDI CC messages to an external device such as an amp modeler.
* Use and external MIDI expression pedal to manually modulate chorus, flanger, and filter or create a whammy pedal.
* You can download firmware updates to protect your investment

http://www.stevesmusiccenter.com/BacklineRiffBox.html

"Welcome to the world of intelligent looping. If you are frustrated with traditional loopers that require you to hit a footswitch at just the right time in order to get the correct loop timing, you have come to the right place. RiffBox™ uses a patent applied for algorithm that creates perfectly timed loops every time."

* The length of the recording can be timed to your playing instead of a footswitch press.
* The start and stop of loop recording can be timed to your playing, timed to an external audio source or timed to MIDI start and stop commands.
* You can sync an external drum machine to your playing during loop playback.
* Unique delay effects can be achieved that are timed to your playing.
* 76 different looping modes including automatic layering and automatic fading.
* Store up to 100 configurations as presets.
* 16-bit stereo or 16-bit mono recording modes, both with 48KHz sampling rates.
* Up to 40 seconds of recording time in stereo or 80 seconds in mono at 48KHz.
* Full MIDI implementation including program change messages, continuous controller messages, start and stop commands and sysex data dumps.
* Recording and playback can be controlled using MIDI program change messages, an external footswitch or a built-in footswitch.
* Swap mode allows a mono loop to play back out of left channel while you play along through the right channel.
* A mono input can be sent to both the left and right channel outputs.
* Half speed playback mode for learning complex recorded passages.
* Reverse mode for unique playback effects.
* Toggle between normal, reverse and half speed mode during playback.
* Change the loop length during playback.
* Multiply modes that allow you to automatically increase your loop length.
* Doubling mode that adds a fuller sounding loop playback.
* Trigger a MIDI drum machine with your playing.
* You can download firmware updates to protect your investment.

Pardon me, I need to go change my pants. Twice.

And the fact that they're both available individually for less than the price of an Eventide...they are going to move some gear.

After hearing soundclips of the FX Tracker, I'm impressed most by its ability to track playing speed. However, the other effects sound mundane at best, and I am somewhat nonplussed by the fact that, for the delays, the speed-tracking seems non-defeatable, and that while it does offer the whole shebang in the MIDI sector, it lacks the most basic of convenient controls: an expression in.

Still, it seems cool, and for less than a 'Tide, plus a new feature (speed tracking) brought to the table, I'm confident it will sell.

Interesting stuff. While I'm not interested in either unit myself, I applaud the new ideas they're trying out like time triggering and sending MIDI CCs to control other units.

I can't seem to play those wmv files but the riff tracker's write up looks promising.
