Screaming Baby Amplifiers Fuzz

Sign in to disble this ad
Just a little heads-up for those not familiar with this pedal maker. Screaming Baby Amplifiers is based out of Chicago, and makes some very cool effects. I really dig the Flower Power Analog Distortion (fuzz) on bass - it has some serious low end, and is very affordable. They're kind of under the radar, as it's a very small operation, but that's what I thought was so cool about them. Not quite sure what to liken the Flower Power fuzz to, but it has kind of a bassy fuzz face vibe to it. I know a lot of people here like small-scale builders, so I wanted to give some props to a very nice guy (Ray) who makes some very affordable pedals. I ordered one blindly, and because of the low price I didn't really have anything to lose. Anybody else heard of them?

Got one of the SUPREME TONE BOX ANALOG TONE FILTER handwired effect today on Ebay after missing out on one on ILFuzz.com.
The thing sounds awesome for the price. Point to point, completely passive, 6 presets & Volume, 2 ins & 3 outs for $80. I'm sold.

Hell yeah! Ray's a super cool guy, and does everything himself. I've heard he's working on a bass fuzz of some sort, too..

Yeah, he said the bass fuzz will cost $75.
The Analog Distortion and LSD Tremolo cost $175 each.
Would like to experiment with all of those but they'd take up my whole board, they're not small.

I just bought a Screaming Baby bass fuzz pedal on ebay. I pulled the trigger after listening to the demo on youtube and hearing the bassline to Curtis Mayfield's "Hell Below". Can't wait for it to arrive.

Got the Screaming Baby Magic Thunder. Holy mother of..... This thing sounds totally gross. I absolutely love it. It's exactly the fuzz I was looking for. It even sounds good cranked all the way up.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow if I can figure out how to post an mp3. Also, I believe it was damaged a bit in transit. It's mostly working fine with my 1x10 practice amp but doesn't respond well to vibration. It wont work at all with my real amp and a 2x15.

It really makes my practice rig sound cool, though. It seems like it can do a nice flat wound, finger style funk type of fuzz, which is exactly what I was looking for. Very excited about getting this thing fixed. It'll get a lot of use if I can.

I can't make a fair recording of this pedal at the moment. Way too much noise. I need to get it fixed.

I just got my pedal back from having it repaired. There was a bad connection in there somewhere so it was re-soldered. This is NOT a good demo of the Screaming Baby Magic Thunder pedal I recently picked up, but it's all I have right now.

The Silks - Smokey Eye - YouTube

In this clip, which was shot on a new iPhone, I'm running an '86 Rickenbacker 4003, strung up with D'Addario Chromes, in Rick-O-Sound, into a 2 channel Acoustic 320 head, into an Acoustic 301 folded horn cabinet. I'm running the neck pick-up clean into one channel and the bridge pick-up through the SBMT bass fuzz into the second channel. I'm running the clean neck pup louder than the dirty bridge pup. Plus, the folded horn 18" speaker seems to really mellow out any dirt pedals I run run into it compared to my other cabs which are loaded with 15's. I set the pedal's volume pot so it did not boost or cut volume when engaged and I believe the fuzz was turned all the way up. Again, the effect it subtle because of the clean neck pup being louder but this pedal had a radically sweeter tone than the T-Rex Bassjuice and Wampler Plexidrive that I also use.

Now, if only I could make it stop picking up radio stations. It's a quirky little thing but damn, it has the best fuzztone I've come across. If I can drill a hole in it so I can run it off of a 9V adapter instead of having to use batteries with it, It'll probably replace the Wampler Plexidrive as my always on dirt pedal.
