Seek Wah

I need a good seek wah capable pedal. Any suggestions? I haven't tried it but I doubt the ZVEX Seek Wah II is good for bass.

The Dunlop 105Q Bass Wah is a good and very popular wah and made specifically for bass frequencies (and coincidentally, I am selling one in the classifieds!!)

I've messed around with the Z.Vex Seek Wah in a music store on bass and while it's a nifty little effect,...I could really only see it being usable in a live setting on Guitars or Synths. I don't recall which version but it was a few years ago and it was a used model,....Zvex (or any other booteek pedal) dealers in Spokane pft.

Not really knowing what you are looking for,...maybe look into one of the MoogerFooger MuRFs (Bass MuRF is older, Midi MuRF is the current one size fits all [Guitar, Bass, ETC]).

I'm not sure there are many commercial pedals that do a sequential wah setup. The Line 6 FM4 or M5 (or M9 or M13) have a digital representation of it that works okay though obviously it lacks the control of the ZVex.

Outside of that I think you'd have to DIY what you want.

There are pedals that are in that same realm of sound. The Subdecay Prometheus and Copilot Gyroscope do stepped envelope sounds and there are a few stepped phasers (Boss, Digitech, Subdecay, Prophecy etc). And though much more random and not following a set pattern, a sample & hold filter (Subdecay Proteus, Original Robotalk, a few others) produces a related sound.

Edit: Warwick hit on another option. The MuRF is a great pedal for that sort of effect, though again not exactly the same sound.

I believe the Seek Wah uses a set of bandpass filters which is going to make it difficult to keep the low end. In a blend loop you'd lose the sequenced sound so I'm not sure what the answer there is.

You know what would be awesome is a blended loop where the loop contained:

slow gear (clone) --> seek wah --> reverb

...with the blend at like 80-90% dry.

I am building a seek wah right now! I'll give that setup a try with my Echo Park! Sounds tasty
