So.....how good is the DI on the Darkglass B7K?
I'm really close to picking one of these up and I'm trying to justify the purchase. How good is the DI on these and would you ever buy one to use as your primary DI?
I appreciate any info,
I can't say myself, haven't used it much other than for practice yet. But I see a lot of endorsements from gigging bass payers that use the B7K and use the DI. Can't be bad.
It's a little hot (the US version). But it sounds incredible as a DI. I just run the volume a bit lower on the B7K. Or, if I have my compressor, I set it to a very mild compression and I lower the volume on the comp. This way I could keep the B7K at the volume that I want. Simple gain staging. But it works great alone as well. It takes a little bit of tweaking for your particular bass, but when you find the sweet spot ,it is so worth it.
Frankgsbass, what does your pedal setup look like?
I asked the same question in the Darkglass Club a while ago. There were a few replies not that many though.Hope this helps.
For what its worth -I have a B7K (US model) now but I have yet to record with it or to use the DI when playing live. Hence no first hand experience yet I am afraid. I intend to use it always on pedal and as my primary DI. So far I am impressed with the versatility and quality as OD/preamp and would be surprised if the DI section would not live up to the billing.
I guess it would be interesting to compare recordings of the B7K to some of the frequently used dedicated DI's.
Spencer just posted his settings for the two, seperate and stacked, in the Darkglass club thread. My settings are almost the same. However I use the B7K and I engage the bass boost. Then I lower the highs and low mids ever so slightly.
I also have a B3K that I took on tour with me. But stacking the B3k and B7k didn't work out like I wanted it to. Im gonna hang on to it for now just in case I get inspired to try it again.
Im looking for a compressor at the moment. I love my CS-2 and the very slight high end grit that I get with it. But I'd like to run everything very clean and just get a bit of grit from the DG pedals. Id like an optical comp. Hoping the PWNZOR or Opressor either come on the market again or show up in the classifieds.
Here is what Im using now (not the settings)
Great to see franksgbass. My B7K actual settings are close to that picture, lower blend, about 11 o'clock, a little higher on the mids, but otherwise much the same. Experimenting with the VMT as a dist boost.
