Some question for Ernie Ball Volume Pedal

Sign in to disble this ad
I am planning to get a volume pedal. I am choosing one from Ernie Ball. But I don't know which one should I get. I need some advise..

1. I got many bass, both active passive, so I should get a 25k active vol pedal or 250k passive vol pedal?

2. Is there a need for a stereo vol pedal?

3. If a passive I should choose, what are the different between VP jr 250k, 6166 and 6168? which one suitable for me?

Thanks a lot

I have both active and passive basses and I use the passive model. It works great.

I guess you need a stereo pedal if you run two rigs.

I just have one rig.
Is there any problem if I plug an active bass into a passive vol pedal or a passive bass to an active vol pedal?

Also is that the best of the passive in Ernie Ball is 6166? If yes, how about BOSS FV500 and Morley PVO+?
Hows Morley PVO+ working? Which one is the best of Morley PVO+, EB 6166 and BOSS FV500?

Thanks a lot.

I can't speak about passive bass into active VP but I use my passive VP with my active basses almost everyday with no issues.

I don't know if anyone on here has used the Morley Volume Pedal yet (I'm looking at you Boo... I know you love Morley! ) But the EBVP JR passive model is the one that I have... I think it's 6166... but it's not here for me to check right now.

I have on way the active model as i mainly play live with my active bass. I did play a passive bass through the active model in a store last week and it only seemed to work in the top 40% ie the sound of the bass only really kicked in after the pedal was turned past half way. It was only a quick test (say 30secs) so I may be wrong but it did work with a passive bass just not as much as with an active one which was ok with me. I will know better next week when my pedal arives.

Most, if not all of your questions are answered on the ernie ball volume pedal product page and the volume pedal FAQ.

1. if you EVER connect a passive bass directly to the volume pedal, then it's preferable to get the 250k (passive) version. If the volume pedal is always connected after some electronics (effects pedals, pre-amp, buffer etc.) then get the 25k (active) version.

2. Yes there is a need, if you have a stereo rig.

3. The Jr. is the small version, the 6166 is larger and has a "taper switch" to tailor the sweep of the treadle, the 6168 is the same as the 6166 with an additional toe switch which can be used for controlling other equipment.

I'd pick the EB volume pedals over ANYTHING on the market.

Same here. I prefer the big ones over the junior models, since I have big feet. They are heavy and take up a lot of floor space, but I'm pretty sure they will outlast every other piece of equipment I own.

i use the 25k JR model with both active and passive basses, but always after pre-amp (sansamp bbdi) and effects chain. works like a charm!

The Jr. stands for junior - they are the only small models.
