Something like the Submarine?

Until the "Designer Edition" comes out, Im thinking of getting a space saver for it. Since im gonna be using it as a tone shaper of sorts after my fuzz boxes Im thinking just a straight EQ for now.

But, I was just wondering if there's anything similar out there

I think the Submarine is basically a pre amp isn't it? So what pre amps have the sort of flavor you like? There's gazillions of them.

I'm too lazy to look through Os' thread. Is the Designer Edition any different from the Mk. II?

I know Os based the Submarine on a Mesa Boogie Preamp,...which one I don't know as he seems somewhat tight lipped on that. To that end it could be the preamp section of a 400+,...or the M2000,...or a guitar preamp for all I know.

According to a thread over at freestomps, it's very similar to the Albert Kreuzer FET preamp...

The DE's gonna have some EQ curve switches and a "body" knob IIRC.

Gimme a sec and I'll look up the post

EDIT: Life as a pedal builder (was : ElectroniX pedals is NO MORE!)

Knobs:
Volume
Tone
Body - alters the "body" of the sound. Goes from scoop to freq. boost (meaning making everything more)

Toggles:
Bass Boost toggle - increases bass response
Boost Toggle - over the top gain boost

Freq toggle 1: flat - low mids (600Hz) boost - original sub
Freq toggle 2: High mids (1kHz) boost - mud (250Hz) dip - original sub

Good thing is you can totally get original Submarine sound with it, no kidding

I'd just try to find a Mk. II to hold you over till the DE comes out.

The Submarine is designed to boost second order harmonics into distortion just below the threshhold of being obvious. The effect of which is increased fullness and some shine on the top end. Os explained this to me once a while back. It is not a transparent pre by any means as this coloration is intentional.
