Is Something Wrong With My T-Rex Juicy Lucy

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Man

I've a Juicy Lucy that gets very warm during use. It couldn't fry an egg--Leastwise I haven't left it on long enough to find out if it could--but it gets much warmer than I expect it should.

Has anybody else had similar happen? Is it possible this unit's not working properly?

Man! Just this morning I discovered there's quite a hum within that ps too. I realize transformers sometimes(?) hum, but, for example, my VL PP2+ does not hum, nor does it get the least bit warm.

Currently, two. My [SFX] pre (drawing 240ma) and the Markbass Compressore (drawing 500ma). The MB Compressore is utilizing two outlets via a T-Rex current-doubling cable, so there are 3 of 5 outlets in use.

Sorry, I should've stated that already.

300ma per outlet. Obviously, this means the current-doubler cable produces 600ma at the expense of using fewer pedals.

Well, it's an older unit and may not be as sophisticated as a design as the PP+2. So, that may account for the internal buzz and heat. If your effects are working properly (I assume they can all handle 12v) and you get no buzz/interference when the pedals are activated I'd say all was OK. If you can hear the buzz from the power source when you're pretty far away from it I'd say there was a problem though. I'd also experiment with plugging the effects into a different series of outputs (as well as just one effect plugged in at a time) just in case one of the outputs is bad. Also, do you have the same problem when you just have one effect plugged in and the other not plugged in at all?
