Hello TB community. Considering buying this pedal (along with the MarkBass Compressore) for Xmas. Would be grateful to all you bass recording geniuses out there if you could mention any songs that use this pedal(MXR EF) effect in them? Any mentions would greatly help me out. Happy Xmas to all. |

Would love to hear some other mentions. |

But that Sir Psycho Sexy sound can be done with the MXR Envelope Filter ... put some dirt before (i use a selfmade Z.VEX BoxOfRock clone) AND(!) mix some clean sound into it (for clean blending: Boss LS-2 or Xotic X-Blender), done!

I don't miss the size and the requirement of that odd wall wart though. I've got an EBS BassIQ coming today, maybe it will do the trick. If not, I'll probably try a 3 Leaf Proton and decide from there! I love having an envelope filter though

I have a video of him where he uses the DOD and I got confused.
Not the bass version? I was never able to get that fat sound from the guitar one, I need a fair amount of clean blend.
I play in a RHCP tribute band, and for my own flavour of Sir Psycho Sexy I used a EHX Bassballs into an envelope filter. It used to be a EHX micro QTron, now the DOD FX25B. Both through a Boss LS-2, so that I can adjust the level and turn both on at the same time.
Very "burpy" I love that sound :-)

Still a bandpass rather than a lowpass filter, so even with the blend it isn't the most flexible or practical envelope filter for bass, though it certainly can get some cool sounds. |

Cool.
It's a bit of a one trick pony on bass, for me, I agree. But a really cool trick. I sold my MXR and micro QTron and kept the DOD.
The volume drops a bit, but I use the LS-2 to bring the volume up.

Jerry (Garcia) used that older version for a while (JGB?) and it sounded pretty close to his 'Tron.
