Yeah I have seen quite a few bluebeards for sale lately in the classifieds. Have not seen any grey staches though.

Love my BB and El Oso combo. Still tweaking and playing with them but I will say the BB is the hariest, most hairy fuzz I've ever owned. With volume cranked and fuzz around 3, the breakup is intense. Videos and clips I've heard just don't do it justice. I considered the GS but in the end went with the K.I.S.S. principle of the BB. I'm glad I did, and when I die you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

I know you're getting the GS, but if you feel you need more or a boost really consider the El Oso. It seems to be gaining some popularity and I bought it on the suggestion of others but the sound when I stack the two together is magic. With the BB into the El Oso, it's the meanst most crushing sound I've ever heard a bass make. Whether or not I use the sound in a band or not, there's nothing more fun and inspirational to be rocking that kind of insanity spewing through your speaker.

I saw quite a few Staches online last month. These things seem to come in waves.

Whole lot of fellow DooMers up in here!

I have a Grey Stache and can confirm that it is indeed awesome. Mine has germanium/4001(supercollider diode)/no diode option as well as the oscillation mod. At the time that mod sounded like a good idea but unless I`m using a guitar it`s hard to notice anything.

When I want a wall of fuzz I stomp on the GS. Having a Mids knob as well as the tone knob is pretty handy at putting right where I want in the mix.

I can`t help you with the Blue Beard, haven`t laid my mitts on one yet.

What mods did you find useless? the diodes or the oscillation? I was planning on getting silicone and LED diodes and also the oscillation. Should I re-think these mods before shelling out the extra cash?

Ah sorry bout that! That was kind of vague. I was referring to the oscillation mod when I said it seemed like a good idea at the time. When I`m using my bass I don`t really notice any oscillation unless I have the gain cranked all the way up. But when I use a guitar I notice the oscillation a bit more. I would recommend the tone bypass tho. I have the tone bypass mod on a muff pedal made by Ryan of Fuzzrocious and it`s really ballsy.

Your best bet is to either watch as many videos as you can, or buy both and flip the one you don't choose to keep. My experience shows that you can break pretty close to even in the classifieds for either one. I wish there were an easier suggestion for you, but the truth is they are both excellent pedals in their own right...each built by one of the nicest dudes you can hope to know!
Exactly what i did - I bought both and flipped the Stache. Just not my cup of tea. I wasn't into all the mid range nasally tone of the Stache. And as hard as I tried to dial it out it was still there.

On the other hand I like simplicity and that's exactly what you get with the Bluebeard. Great low end fuzz easily dialed in and sustained. Both are muff variants so be sure you really dig the muff tone before buying either. They don't always work in all fuzz situations, but I'm sure you're keen to that!

Bluebeard - money well spent and they come up on the classifieds all the time.

Going to chime in here because I just picked up a Grey Stache today.

I've had a Bluebeard for a while now and nothing has been able to hold a candle to it...until now.

Now as a disclaimer, I'm a more brassy, high tone, high gain sort of fuzz-lover. The BB covers so so much, and it hugs the low end pretty well.

But, now A/B'ing with the GS and playing lots of stuff that hits the low, the mids and the highs on the bass, I have to say that the BS cover more range over all and the BB can get very slightly muddy on the mid-string, mid-range. This is where the GS
I've still got a lot of experiments to do, but right now I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping both on my board for fine-tuning particular songs.

I wish someone would build a hybrid pedal, where it switch more to the GS on the mid and mid-highs and the BB mostly (like 80 BB, 20 GS) on the absolute lows.

A man can dream...

A few ppl have told me the earthbound audio supercollider sounds like a hybrid between both of them. I have never had any experience with one so I can not vouch for this but its worth looking in to. I think there is one in the classifieds right now.

I had a Supercollider briefly. See it here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f213/f...descend-949507

It was a mini version (same electronics) as the current more sex larger ones.

I have to agree that it is a totally different fuzz than the BB and GS. The BB and GS are similar. VERY similar, but the Supercollider is a different animal.

Let me say that the Supercollider is a unique fuzz, and it sounds great. I do want to try the newer "BEAST" version that's out there.

However, when I A/B it with the BB, my BB still killed it. Now this is only because of my style, preference, song range, other pedals, etc.

I would highly recommend trying one at some point, it's a very solid and unique fuzz.

It has a wet/dry knob, which is nice.

And it's a very clean fuzz, just doesn't have as much bite as the BB or GS, and I'm looking for brutal bite. I remember that there was an "M" knob (not sure what it was for), but I remember it because when it was dialed in, it was waaaay to muddy, so I always remembered "M" for mudd.

But if you turn it all the way down, you can get a nice bite, just not as nice as BB and GS.

The Bluebeard over gains everything I place after it. Like, the TFR is fairly high gain, and with the signal running Bluebeard > TFR it screams fuzz.

Exactly what I did. SMART. Both are easy to flip if you decide not to keep one. I still both and have no plans on getting rid of them. Enjoy sir
