Dunno if this has ever been posted before, and I'm to lazy to search.

In this clip, the bassist is playing a sound that I always thought was an keybaord or sampler or something. From this clip it looks like it's not. At 2:03 -2:25, and you can see the bassist playing it at 2:10.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf3fpULe6Ig

It's like a whump whump sound with a short decay. Is it a combo of pedals like an octave and something else? Is it a synth? Or is it a different setup all together?

Thanks.

OC2 and a Moogerfooger is all that is, pretty sure, if you're talking about the break where Lisa Shaw is singing and it is all dubbed out?

that's Tim Lefebrve... big shoes to fill! i got the foundation of what i do from Tim's innovations...

According to Mayer it's "reverse engineering" so it's a bass imitating a synth. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bass microsynth, but keep in mind that they have a band member working the mixing board and effects.

(Had to turn off that clip even though I like some of the musicians, those beats irritate me and the rappers are some of the worst i've ever heard)

Yup, that's the part.

Moog LPF? So a filter and an an octave then?

Damn, I just realized what your gig is.

I got to listening to some of jojo's drum stuff a little while back, and I have come realize I really like his drum and percussion work. Tasty stuff I must say! Dude plays some pretty awesome beats. If you guys swing through Colorado some time, I might have to check it out live.

Hmm. From the bass synths that I have played, they have all been kinda loud and raspy with the square wave distortion in there. This seems to be much mellower and controlled.

Can't say I liked the rappers to much either, but the beats and Jojo's idea are pretty neat. Plus I'm very interested in this kind of music as I have never really explored it with my own bass playing.

I like the idea - the execution here just seems a little euro-slick for my tastes.

That bass sound is great though

lol I take it you've never been a fan of drum'n'bass That's straight up d'n'b (without getting into subgenre's... inb4 "drum'n'bass is a subgenre of jungle" ).. I think of euro-house and sh.t when I think euro-slick.

Jojo really blows me away by being able to faithfully recreate those rapid-fire jungle beats live, in real time. The MC is definitely blowing it though.. as do the majority of wannabe MC's who don't know when to shut up, keep trying to turn up the mic, singing over vocal tracks etc.. But as they said in the video, they have (or at least had) a bit of a revolving door of guest artists that perform with them- And in a genre plagued by MC's, it's easy for an MC to make everyone look bad by trampling all over the set.

Yeah I thought the army of terrible bedroom DJs would never be outnumbered, but sure enough they now cower before the army of terrible Jungle MCs.
