Soundblox or ODB-3

Hi guys, I'm just starting to arrange my pedal board and I wanted to get a distorion
Which one do you recommend me the most?
they told me the new soundblox bass distortion was good, and I'm actually struggling to decide between getting on of those, or an ODB-3

Thanks!

Too vague a question. There are a lot of great sounds in the Source Audio, but IME they all have a distinctive sound in their decay which you may not like. The ODB is a very polarizing effect, people either love it or hate it. Plus there a bajillion other options with all their little quirks.

Of the two you mentioned I would lean toward the SA pedal for its synthier options, but it may not suit your situation.

Agreed. Dirt is something that you need to figure out for yourself. I love my TAFM ( I know, it's a fuzz), but some guys don't like them. Personally, you couldn't give me an ODB, but lots of guys rave about them. The Pickle Pie B gets lots of love and for good reason, they are bad ass, still, not for everyone.

Distortion?

BYOC Scrambled Octave

Overdrive?

Pigtronix Fat Drive

I run this:

I really like it but would swap it out for those and a blender pedal if I had it to do over.

The Scrambler has an incredible and versatile sound and I can't stress enough how amazing it is to have a touch sensitive overdrive.

The easiest way to get a recommendation that isn't 'my current favorite' is to post a clip of something you're looking for, or list requirements (versatility, sweepable EQ, top mounted jacks, those kind of things).

I dig the odb-3. It's got a blend option, low and high freq knobs. It's cheap as hell to. You can get them $40

Same here,

started a few months ago my pedalboard. Had no experience with effects on bass...

Wanted a distortion but wasn't sure what, what was the difference between the zillion stuff out there.

Since I had no experience I tried a few at a store, one of them was the Boss OBD3, and what I liked about it is that you can EQ bass and treble on in the distortion effect. It did the job, so I bought one of craigslist for $45. And when I'm ready for something better, more expensive, and that I know what I'm doing, then I will...

I'm one of the few that likes the ODB3. What I find is that to get a decent tone you have to cut the treble, sometimes to as low as 9 o'clock. Plus you have to be aware that even at very low levels on the dial the gain is quite saturated.
I get a good low overdrive sound by cutting the treble to 9 o'clock, having the balance around 9 o'clock, having the gain dialed either right down or slightly on (7 o'clock).
For heavier distortion more treble and gain would be needed obviously.

Indeed. An ODB-3 with the Monte Allums Tri-gain mod is quite nice.
