I'm seriously considering getting a Sansamp PBDDI but last time I owned one I didn't really like it but it has everything I need for a situation I will soon find myself in.
Can you guys link me to songs you've recorded with bands etc where your signal chain was pretty much bass - bddi - desk.
I guess I'd always like to hear it on it's own as well, basically I'm trying to get as close to my Mesa 400+ in a pedal as I can (Yeah I know keep dreaming).
Thanks

I found it to be kinda clanky, like it picked up artifacts that i didn't like, but not in the kinda of overdrive nice artifact way that i like.
However when recording the first track for my bands debut EP, the engineer didn't want me to amp up, he just plugged me straight into RBI rackmount and then into a tube DI into the desk. BUT the main difference is the rackmount had the mid control and we kinda cranked it and then blended judiciously to get a driving sound that wasn't so annoyingly treble (as i remember my PBDDI to be).
Just so happens the start of the song is a bass intro so you can kinda get an idea of it. www.myspace.com/offbeatanticsrockyourface - the song is Here I Am (unmastered) and it's the only one there. I'm playing with a pick - USA Deluxe Jazz bass into the RBI.
Just a thought as another person who owned and didn't like the PBDDI but had a better experience with the RBI

I'll have to go borrow one or something

It has a passive 3 band eq so it's more of a preamp than just a distortion pedal, and there's no harsh treble coming out of it (unless you whack the gain right up which you wou'dn't be doing I think). Also, I recently got hold of a cheap Zoom B2 and the amp models sound so good I'd be happy to play through just this in a live situation if I had no amp. My brain tells me that a £30 box will not cut the mustard as a stage rig replacement but my ears inform me otherwise! Nice smooth tube grind, adjustable speaker sim and very little noise. I've been meaning to do some clips of all my gear, I'll try and get em done this week.
