Smile Soundclips - VT Bass, MXR 108 Fuzz & Carbon Copy in a band context

Sign in to disble this ad
I'd like to share a home recording of my band. http://soundcloud.com/bermejo1981/querido-ayer#

In this one I used:

- Valenti Jazz Bass
- Ampeg SVT-VR
- Mesa/Boogie 4x10 & 1x15 cabs
- Shure SM57

As for the effects:

- Classic 108 Fuzz from 0:28 to 0:56, 1:38 - 2:04, 4:22 - 5:02.
- VT Bass from 2:05 to 4:21, 5:03 - 6:09.
- Carbon Copy from 3:41 to 4:22.

All the effects are blended with Xotic X-Blender at 75%. Also, some weird noises with Maxon Flanger and 108 Fuzz at the very end of the clip.

Hope you like it. Any comment or question will be appreciated.

Sorry, the clip is bigger than I thought (5,97 MB). I'm trying to post it at the moment. Any help?

I like your work, your bass line with the slide, and the VT sections sound great. The down arpeggios at about 3/4 might need more un-effected bass in the mix to hear the notes. It's a long song, man.
There seem to be strange reverb decisions going on in the drums, they sound very boxy & sterile at first (and so restrained versus all the fluffy ac. guitars) and the lead solo at the end is very overblown in the reverb, so noisy it gets in the way of the solo and there's no prescedence for it.
Having different instruments in obviously different spaces sounds odd to me, not subtle so I'm Aware of the reverbs instead of the song. But me no sabe the language or the local cultural referents anyway...

That fuzz sounds great! What settings do you have on it?

Thanks for your opinion, Bassbrass. We are still learning the art of home recording, so we have a lot of "copy and paste" parts here, and our tries to enhance a certain section might not be the best for the moment. Since the differences in the reverbs, for example. We'll take your thoughts into account.

Chris, the fuzz was nearly maxed, and the buffer was on. Then it was blended 75% wet with the X-Blender, to bring back the low end. It's a very simple pedal.
