There are newer pedal options and the Hot Hand 3 that has a receiver that is amazingly small and will let you connect to Source Audio pedals and other brands like the Wah pedal can do but in a much more pedalboard friendly form. The BEF Pro will need a fuzz/distortion in front of it to excite the filter and get those synthy wobbles I think you are after. I prefer the Classic Distortion Pro, but they are developing a new overdrive/fuzz/distortion pedal that will be voiced for bass that sounds really exciting. Another popular choice is the Multiwave Bass Distortion pedal and it is available in all three pedal lines.
