Question Source Audio Multiwave Distortion VS. SAMWBD

Sign in to disble this ad
I found an ad on craigslist for a Source Audio Multiwave Distortion with hot hand accessory for 80 bucks.
Now, I know the accessory alone is worth 100, so this is a good deal. But what are the differences between the multiwave, and the multiwave bass. And would this pedal work with my bass guitar ( I use a 5 string strung EADGC)
what do y'all think?

I think the differences in the PRO models are in the EQ bands and you may (or may not) be able to get a software/firmware update that would make it into a MWBassDP,..if it's just the single pedal non Pro versions I can't comment.

For definitive answers you can contact Roger (rsmith601) who is the Owner CEO of SA and a user here on TB along with Will (itswac) or Jesse (jesseRSA) who are engineers at SA

There are really 2 key issues here:

1) The bass version has a wet dry/mix so that you can preserve as much of the low end as you need in the output signal. Unless you have 2 amps and do this sort of mix yourself (like Billy Shean does with the guitar Multiwave) then you want the bass version for sure.

2) All of the voicing (i.e. EQ) for each effect was done with a bass guitar. Maybe you will like the guitar Eq better for bass? but most likely not.

I vote to go with the bass version, but welcome other input from those who have tried the guitar version with bass. I would note that if that were good enough for most.......we would not have needed to do the bass one....

Listen to the SA man! I have an non-bass MWD which I love, and I use it on my keyboard. On bass notes, it definitely loses low end. When I use it with key bass, I put an EQ pedal after it. You're better off going with the bass version for bass guitar.
