evoking the appropriate response

Friday I was visiting True Tone Music in Santa Monica. They have an extensive selection of effects there, all available to try out. I ended up leaving the store with a Classic Pro. After exploring for a couple of days, I am considering swapping my Multiwave Bass Distortion Pro for the Classic Pro. I haven't found a sound I don't like yet, but my favorites are the Tube drive with just a little gain, and the Clean boost, with both drives maxed out. The Clean boost distortion is awesome.

Last night, I had settled on some extremely compressed overdriven tone, and was just jamming away. My wife stuck her head in and asked me to turn down, commenting that I was making a very annoying sound........

Last jam, I used the BEF to some very pleasing results.

Thank you SA.

My Classic Pro favorites at the moment are:

Tube Drive - for guitar distortion tone
El Raton - for Fuzz
Octave Fuzz - into BEF Pro

Try stacking the MWBD Pro after the Classic Pro

I have a little problem with a Phaser-Setting on the BEF which I can't quite solve.

It's a phaser with LFO and Tap Tempo. Everytime I tap into another tempo it reverts to the original tempo after a couple of seconds. First I thought it had something to do with the Expression-pedal, but I disabled its functionality in the Backpage. Any idea?

I think that just moving the expression-pedal, even when the "ED" (expression depth) is set to zero (the middle) count as as going away from the tapped tempo and back to the one set by the speed dial.
I really would wish entering tap-tempo mode would work the same as MIDI-tempo-sync, so the speed dial becomes a multiplier instead.
...Perhaps some firmware updates are what I wish from SA-nta, fixing some of those small design farts and adding a PC (or Mac) preset editor. I know one is in the works - I also know that it will have at-least one feature no one here is counting on .

whats a 'notch', 'peak', '2 pole', '4 pole'

*A "notch" or band-stop"-filter is a filter that filters out certain frequencies (the ones in the stop band), a notch filter is just a filter with a narrow stop band. Moving the filter gives sounds close to those of a phaser.

*A "peak"-filter is kinda the opposite of a "notch"-filter, it emphasis the frequencies in a certain band (like a singe band on a parametric equalizer, with the boost/cut all the way to boost). Moving the band with an LFO sounds like a wahpedal (ish), moving it with an envelope-follower gives that funky Quack-quack.

*A "2 pole"-filter in the case of the BEF is a 2 pole lowpass filter. A filter rolling off high frequencies and putting ephasis on the ones just before it starts cutting.
A "4 pole"-filter does the same, but more dramatically.
In a bit more technical terms a 2p LP-filter cuts 12dB/oct (meaning that tones/harmonics one octave higher than the cutoff will be attenuated by a factor of four, 2 octaves a factor of 8 and so on) the 4p LP cuts at 24dB/oct.

*Lowpass filters sound a bit "meatier" due to the (relativly) extended low frequency response. Generally 2-pole is closer to funk and 4-pole has some "synthy" characteristically to them. 4-pole filters aren't that common in effect pedals, or atleast haven't been earlier.

Currently have the Distortion soundblox 2, Hot hand 3 anda BEF pro... taken me a while to get used to them, but now we're on the same page!

I'm in too

Don't have a recent pic, but I'm in with the Tri-Mod Wah, Soundblox 2 Dimension Reverb, Soundblox 2 MBD, and HH3. Hoping for the Poly Mod and BEF Pro soon.

MIDI functionality and the BEF

Sooooo....

Is anyone having success with MIDI CC messages into the BEF Pro?

I tried this last night and didn't have much success.

I have an expression pedal into my Eventide Modfactor, which I have set up to send MIDI CC (#23) via the expression pedal. MIDI OUT goes into my my Timefactor and then into the BEF Pro. I set up the TF to accept MIDI CC #23 to control the expression pedal and the expression pedal movement acts as it should, changing parameters for each patch. The TF MIDI out is set as THRU to pass MIDI data to the BEF Pro.

As per the BEF Pro MIDI instructions, CC #23 should change the value of the Speed knob. MIDI clock is working fine, as the BEF Pro synchs to the tempo set on the Modfactor. So, all set up, MIDI clock is synched, I bring up a patch with a synched LFO. When I move the expression pedal, the LFO changes for a second (either slower or faster depending on the movement of the expression pedal) and then quickly reverts back to the original speed. I could hear the speed change for a second and then it would go back to the default speed. No matter how many times I did this, same results. I must have spent 20 minutes trying this out, checking connections, verifying parameters, etc.

I tried with two pedals - a Moog EP-2 and an Ernie Ball VP Jr into the expression input of the Modfactor - same results with the two. I tried messing with the output range control on the side of the EP-2 and again, get a quick change in speed then back to default. I triple checked my settings on both the Modfactor and Timefactor to make sure things were set the way they should be....yep.

I then tested the expression in on the BEF Pro and viola!...works as it should. LFO was synched to MIDI clock and my speed changes with expression pedal movement and stays in that speed until I move the XP again. That's what I wanted MIDI to do for me...

I was planning on having MIDI expression control over both the BEF Pro and the Multiwave Bass Distortion Pro (which I haven't tested yet....) so 4 of the pedals on my board could be controlled via one expression pedal.

So, is anyone having success with this?

well, I just sent in my MWBD Pro because it would not recevied midi passed thru my midi solutions midi hub. Apparently I have an early unit that needs to be updated. That may be the deal with your BEF Pro?? Or could it just simpy be picking up the Midi clock signal again? I have not done any midi clock stuff yet, so that's new to me.

That said, I use a midi expression pedal signal on my BEF pro and instead of just using the CC it is effected by the backpage (XC). You really need to get with SA to sort it out.

As for controlling 4 things with 1 pedal, how do you assign the different addresses?

Hmmm, not sure. My BEF Pro WAS a replacement from SA since the first one I bought was acting up. MIDI clock is working fine with a non-MIDI expression pedal, I just can't get it to work as it should with MIDI CC.

I ordered my MWBDP on 12/22/2010, so I'm not sure if this is considered an early unit. If so, I may need to send it in since I would like to start controlling things via MIDI.

Definitely. So I have to ask, how are you doing this? I remember reading how CC #24 could be used to control other parameters via MIDI for the BEF Pro. Has this been tested? (BTW, I tried this last night - sending CC #24 - with no success. Unfortunately, the movement of the expression pedal did nothing)

The Eventides are great with MIDI as it's pretty easy to set them up. One expression pedal can control parameters on multiple factor pedals as long as the first in the MIDI chain is sending data and the others are receiving/passing thru data. I'm transmitting the MIDI clock and CC data (currently) to the BEF Pro which unfortunately is being very disobedient.

If my MWBDP accepts MIDI CC for the morph, I plan on getting a MIDI Solution Thru to split the MIDI signal - one for the BEF Pro and the other for the Distortion.

Yes, they said CC 24 would do that (on current firmware), but I find that other CC's are effected by the (XC) too. I like how mine is working so I haven't really run too many experiments on it to see what's really going on there.

And on the multiple pedals, don't you have to set the midi send channel on the Eventide in a menu or somthing? Can you change those easily on-the-fly? That would be cool, like a midi expressionator.

Nice to see someone else using the midi functions. At first I thought I'd never us that port, but now I don't think I will buy pedals without midi ports.
