Splitter Box

I guess I'll put this in "effects" but in general:
What do bass players mean when they use a splitter box?
Is it the same as a DI? Passive or active? What's a good one?

Any box that splits the signal form 1 input to 2 outputs.

I am looking for specific, rather than general info. Passive splitters are hit-or-miss IME. What kind of splitter do you use?

I have an Empress Effects (Canadian company) A-B-Y box.
It has powered LEDs indicating signal path, but can be used unpowered just as easily.
It works as an A-B splitter (one bass switchable into two amps) or a Y splitter (two basses switchable into one amp).
They use all Switchcraft and other high quality parts, sturdy steel box.
Was around $60, and custom built to my specs.

I use the Radial ABY. Great product (as usual from this company), just wished it had LED's.

That's one of the key elements of my Empress box.
I am NOT gonna remember which way it's switched without the LEDs!

Yeah I agree!

I don't see that box on their site, do you have a picture of yours? Does it run on battery or power supply only?

I know Radial decided to go without LED's to keep a small footprint. That said I like the extra features of the radial like the volume level on input-2 and bright switch.
