Welcome, first off, Jose, to the world of fuzz. You are in for a long ride.

The Earthbound Supercollider is actually one of many more bass-friendly clones of the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi circuit, and as such will sound completely different from a Sola Sound Tone Bender. To illustrate my point more accurately, listen to a couple of soundclips from a clone of each circuit made by the same pedal manufacturer on guitar.

For bass clips of pedals also in the respective tonal category of these two circuits, look here.

Tone Bender - http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/mainpage.asp?page=micro_fuzz

Hopefully you'll have some idea of the tone you're after after you've heard the above clips of similar pedals. Happy hunting!

Bassfuzz.com is also an indispensable resource, run by our very own grygrx. He's got I think hundreds of demos, including one of the Supercollider (see here). Not sure if he has any Tonebender clones demo'd, but hopefully he'll chime in sometime soon (he's a mod, it's likely he'll see it ).
His review sold me on a Supercollider, and I've put it up against quite a few dirt pedals over the past few months and it's still king to me.

Already knew, but I appreciate your help. I just wanted to know opinions, to satisfy my FUZZ Adiction next purchase as well as you mentioned I'm barely half the road, much remains to be done.

The sfx Micro Fuzz is based on the Colorsound Bass Fuzz which is a Tonebender tweaked for bass (sorry, I've not tried an actual Tonebender). It has waaaaaay more low end than any other fuzz I have ever tried (which is a lot). It is pretty scooped sounding though. The Supercollider is awesome, plenty of lows as long as your bass isn't too hot. it has lots of midrange snarl when you dig in. I've settled on the Supercollider, Micro Fuzz and Bass Big Muff on my board for now!

Sure.

I have owned two Tonebender clones...a mark II and a mark III. I have owned over 15 different Muffs.

The low end doesn't seem to have as much staying power in a band setting for the Tonebenders as the Sovtek Muffs, and their variants (which is basically what a SC is, with some bells and whistles).

So, go with the muff. I have an original CW SBM and a Supercollider on my board...and no Tonebenders (Bit I don't play in bands anymore as a full disclosure).

Muffs and Tonebenders are completely different sounds and each will work well in specific situations.

There's less variation between muff types than their is with tonebenders. A MkIII tonebender is the closest you'll get to a muff with a tonebender. A Mk1 is as far away as you can get, very sputtery and gated. The coloursound bass fuzz doesn't have much of the tonebender character in my opinion.

It all depends on the sounds you're looking for. Out of all the tonebender variations, I'd say the Mk1 sits best in a band mix. Certain muff types can sit great in a band setting, especially when there's a kick in the mids to help you cut through (as opposed to the scooped mids).

In conclusion though, I don't think you can really compare the 2, they're VERY different. You can't go wrong with either of them, though.

I prefer Big Muffs over Tonebenders. Much more character in the Big Muff.

most tonebender circuits aren't very good at retaining low end, and they don't offer much variety of tone. if you like the character of their distortion, then there you go, you're set with an on/off type of pedal.

Of the two, I'd go with the supercollider - big time.
