Surprising Our Guitarist on Christmas with an Univibe Clone - Please Help!

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm one of those bassists who can't find uses for bass effects other than pre-amps and tuners but I LOVE to widen our band's means of expression by proxy, meaning our guitarist. So, Santa Claus will be soon riding out and I was wondering what Univibe clone pedal I should get for him. My budget is around 100 $, give or take, and the pedal should have a relatively small footprint. The closer he can get to Hendrix, Page and Gilmour, the better. Please help me out!

Also, I prefer suggestions of pedals that are still being produced because it's harder to hunt down those older ones second hand.

EDIT: T-Rex Viper sounds awesome from the demos I've looked up on Youtube. Anyone got any better suggestions?

It's a bit more than $100, but it includes a manual with a Gilmour Breathe setting, Hendrix settings, etc. It's the BBE Soul Vibe. Amazon.com: BBE Soul Vibe Analog Univibe Effect Pedal for Guitars, Basses and Keyboards: Musical Instruments Actually, you can get it for $106 here at Amazon, and they also have links for them at $99. I got mine at $150-160 I think. It's fantastic for a Uni Vibe sound, and the Breathe setting sounds spot on. My guitarist literally plugged in an did the opening chord and it was exact. I primarily use mine now as a Leslie emulator behind my POG2. Small pedal, built like a tank, and sounds great. Comes with power supply and a battery inside.

ETA: It also has the most awesome design graphic I've ever seen on a pedal!

Thanks! Actually I was having a drink with one of my guitarist friends and he recommended exactly the same one! I'll strongly consider this pedal then. Other recommendations are still welcome.

For quite a bit less than $100, you should look into the Danelectro Cool Cat Vibe. It has a few drawbacks (main one being a small volume boost), but is an actual real vibe circuit, and has a great throb.

But just fyi, any other decent univibe clone is usually closer to $300 and up (Aquavibe, MJM, Fulltone, Castledine, etc...). They're also almost never in a compact enclosure because the bulb and photocells take up a bit of space.

Thanks a lot! This sounds awesome - especially for the price. I already looked up the Danelectro Chicken Salad but that didn't convince me.

the Chicken Salad is the best cheap Univibe pedal I've heard. the Cool Cat Vibe sounds nothing like a Univibe, I returned mine immediatley because of the volume boost and it took the effect about 1 second to engage, completely unusable for me.
