Question Survived Irene!! Now FX Board question

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings,
I have recently completed construction and assembly on my first pedal board!!!! Its perfect, convenient, and sexy but now it just needs one more thing: a case.

Yeah, basically I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good carrying bags for pedal boards. I checked GC and MF, but all they have are bags that come with boards. I'm looking for a bag/case that i can just put the board in and take out as i need. Board is two-feet wide, maybe 15" long, and 5" high.

Any ideas where to look? Should I check out luggage stores? lol

Thanks

Just keep you're eye out for old keyboard cases on CL or go to a thrift store and try to find an old suitcase.

If you luck out then head to Harbor Frieght and hope they have some in dimensions that will work for you're home built board.

Also, check out any Army/Navy stores in your area. Sometimes you can find the most useful stuff in there, for cheap.

Rondo music has some decent cheap cases that look good. Check them out

Not to be argumentative but Rondo cases don't hold up very well IMO. I had one of the CNB (Rondo brand) pedalboards briefly that I picked up on CL and it was a P.O.S.

It would probably work fine as a case for taking to an occasional gig,...but any sort of heavy gigging will the destroy the thing.

The outer laminate you find on the "corrugated" aluminum style cases is easily marred and dented and the lamination (I don't think they are actually aluminum) will bubble out.

As a pedalboard,...the "loop" material they use is sturdy enough to hold onto the "hook" portion of the velcro you put on the bottom of your pedals,...but it's not sufficiently secured to the bottom of the board, so you just wind up pulling the "loop" material out of the board when you try to take a pedal off (look closely at the pics you can see the "carpet" coming up in spots).

Considering that their cheapest pedalboard is $55 and to ship it is $25 and I think they are overpriced for what you get.

Couldn't get rid of the thing for $20 on CL,...sold it at a yard sale for five bucks.

They look nice on the Rondo site, but ultimately those things are ripoffs.

Alternatively you can check out EWI Audiopile.

Audiopile Pro Audio - Case Products

Pricier then making something from Harbor Freight or the thrift store work; but pro quality gear.

I`d say keeping a look out at thrift stores/yard sales/army surplus stores/ trash set out for "big garbage" day,all of those are good places. I found a old green suite case at a yard sale that I bought for 2 bucks that I plan on using for my home made pedal board. I also brought home 3 black lockable suite cases that had eye surgery gear in them at one point. I guess they tossed them out once they brought the stuff into the operating room because I found them in a big trash bin on wheels at the hospital I work at. I even found the keys to them. I figure I can use those for extra cords and pedals.
There a bit too shallow to use for my pedal board. Even the crappy green case might not work. I have to find and put my thinnest effects along the top.
I guess that`s the one downside of having the board on a slant.
