switchcraft di- which one to get?

Sign in to disble this ad
hello- im looking to get one of those switchcraft di boxes, but there are a bunch of models, and im not sure exactly which one is best for my needs (and their site isnt working, so i cant get a tech support email).

i run bass-looper (board)-dbx 160a compressor-amp, but i would like to use the 1/4" balanced out on the dbx to go into a di box (mounted somewhere in the back of my rack). then, obviously, the xlr for foh needs, and the other 1/4" out to the power amp.

thanks in advance for any help with this.

The "700" models don't have the 1/4" mono "thru" jack you want, so that rules those two out. The other three "800" and "900" models will all work exactly the same for you.

The 800 is their basic model that is essentially identical to the Radial JDI. The 800CT is cheaper because it has their in-house made transformer instead of the Jensen-made one. I have no idea if there is any difference in quality or sound between the two. And the 900CT is exactly like the 800CT but with the ability for a soundman to lift the ground switch remotely.

Just for technical clarity, the output of the dbx will be unbalanced, going into the unbalanced input of the DI box. This doesn't matter at all, given the very short cables you'll probably use--I only mention it as a techie detail. The "thru" output of the DI box is also unbalanced.

thanks so much, and for imparting your endless, computer like knowledge base of compressor information upon me again (i know youve helped me with impedance questions with the dbx/amp stuff before).

i will probably just get the jenson version. ive got enough invested in my setup that i might as well splurge the extra 60 or so bucks.
