Switching pedal order..

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not sure if this will make much sense but....
In placing a trem pedal before a filter sweeping pedal (in this case an ehx microsynth) it sounds completely different from having it the opposite way round. For instance having the trem doing a medium speed on/off volume thing which, would either cut up the filter sweep OR start the filter sweep each time the volume comes on and initiates the filter sweep..

What i'm getting at here.. Is it an original idea if I have have designed a stompbox that requires a crap-load of inputs and a stomp switch that can re-arrange the order of your pedal chain while playing live (incase you like both of the sounds for different songs) instead of having to get down on your hands and knees and swap things around mid set? Or are there far more practical and obvious ways of doing this..?

Cheers for any help..

I'm sure there are others, but I'm not familiar with where to get them.

Edit::: You could also get a Line 6 M13 and have a multi with infinite order switching possibilities.

There are a couple of products already that do this. I think Toadworks and CAE are the brands. While it makes sense on paper for those of us that like to tweak out on pedal arrangements and combos, I think most people find it not practical enough to be worth the expense and pedalboard real estate. But for those whom it suits, it's available.

If I could make a passive version of this switcher would that work or does it need to be active? And if so, is there any simple way of making it active based on a basic a/b box design?

Making an active switcher is pretty simple--Google "op amp cookbook" or "easy op amp projects". But a well-designed passive one should work too. You'd need to use transformers or some other method of isolating the signal paths in order to reduce loading and prevent feedback problems. The opamp method usually averts those concerns as well.
