Is the Swollen Pickle really muffled and boomy sounding?

I checked one out today and fiddled with it for about 40 minutes in GC (not much I know, but I digress), and these are the two adjectives I choose for the pedal: muffled and boomy. I felt like there were usable tones in there, but I just couldnt find them. Im sure my lack of understanding on how all the knobs work had something to do with it, but I heard what I heard. Anyone else experience this or am I just totally off my rocker?

Ill probably still buy one to fiddle with though...

tweaking the internal trim pots makes a world of difference!

and you know what, thats what Im thinking too. I didnt have any access to it, so i had only the basic controls to work with. What do the internal trim pots do anyways? Do they help make a more refined clearer sounding fuzz?

I really really want to like this pedal too

Yeah, and they can take it from a wall of face melting fuzz to just a subtle, slight fuzzy sound. The internal trim pots are as follows:

Clip: Varies between smooth or open fuzz sustain

Voice: Sets the intensity of the external scoop control

Also...see my sig....I love this thing!

I approve of this thread. Its all about the internal trimpots. I mean, all those knobs can be daunting, but once you get the idea of what they tweak its a dream.

I'm getting one to match my Pork Loin, which I'm still enjoying the honeymoon phase, about 4 months later.

When I tried it, I felt the same way as you. I wanted to love it, but I couldn't. Maybe I need to mess with the internal trims, but it's not worth buying to do that.

It can be boomy, but there are a lot of flavors of tones with the internal and mini dials.

Check your PM, by the way.

Also keep in mind that the Pork Loin is a more polite and delicate alternative to the Swollen Pickle. More overdrive'ish than fuzz, but definately can have edge to it.
