SYB 3 for $50

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was looking through craigslist and saw a SYB 3 for $50 bucks I think I am gonna get it just to check it out I figure at that price I can flip it if it is not my thing. It is the same as SYB 5 except no sweep input correct?

I really only want it for waveforms as part of my synth rig.

I know everyone sayes the tracking sucks, is it any worse than the OC2?

yeah, for 50 bucks its at least worth a try. I really like my syb-5 as a part of a pedalboard, not a standalone pedal.

I do not agree with the general 'knowledge' that the SYB pedals are unusable. They aren't the best sounding pedals, but they are the only pedals in that price range that do the waveform thing, and the tracking isn't that bad.

The SYB-3 and SYB-5 are very similar. The only real differences are in the modes and the lack of the exp input. The SYB-3 has two extra auto-wah modes that the SYB-5 doesn't. The SYB-5 has two extra modes where the filter follows an LFO rather than re-triggering with each note.

Just quit toying around and buy a damn Freqbox! You know that you're going to anyway.

You are correct....I was hoping the saw tooth waveform of the syb can hold me off....for a short while.

For the price I think it would be worth trying out- From what I remember, it sustained notes quite well but it definitely does not track as well as an OC-2. Seems like it could be good for dubstep bass lines and other slower/simple bass lines that focus on modulation rather than note selection. If you were having issue with tracking slurs on attack, you could probably disguise them pretty well by quickly closing the filter on each attack (im sure you're familiar with this 'trick', just putting it out there), and if you're using it in parallel with a squarewave, it would probably sound pretty good.

If I were you, a Freqbox would definitely be my next big purchase- I traded my G5 for one, couldn't be happier!
