Synth Bass

Any recommendations for an effects pedal that would achieve a synth bass sound like on Def Leppard's "Rock of Ages"?

I don't know what to recommend, but that was a fun trip back in time. I was 13 and I actually liked Def Leppard!

One thing I can tell you about that sound is IMO you'll need the type of synth where it's a self-contained tone generator triggered by your bass notes, rather than the kind where it is only filtering, fuzzing, and altering your bass's natural tone. I'm sure you've already searched on the word "synth" and read the various threads explaining that distinction and which pedals operate which way.

I disagree. I think you could achieve a very similar sound with a basic bass synth pedal. I have a Digitech Bass Synth Wah and I think it could produce something that would work for this. The Bass Synth Wah in combination with a Boss Phase shifter is an awesome combo IMHO for bass synth sounds on a budget.
