Currently I'm using a Korg AX3000B for only synth and chorus. Is there any other synth pedal out there that has the versitility of the Korg (multiple presets, variety of sounds)?

If you do a search, you should be able to find the thread that a couple of the guys (was it MysticBoo and MarkJazzBassist?) did where they compared and reviewed three of the big synth pedals.
You should check that out.

I liked it a lot the 5 times mine worked, but not enough to buy another one after that 5th time. Currently using the Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synth, it's very cool. I tried a Deep Impact when they were on clearance for $99, and couldn't get a decent sound out of it, at the time I couldn't imagine why anyone would pay $99 for one. For the $500 some people try to get for them now, I think you could do a lot better. |

I've got a Korg G5 also and I'll agree, the tracking is stellar and it's the perfect box for emulating those fat squishy MiniMoog lines. GC was blowing them out several years ago for like $90.
Only shortcoming I've found is if you play very quietly when the unit is in bypass mode, your signal can get mangled all to hell -- I'm guessing it's either a super crappy low resolution A/D converter, or a cheesey non-user-adjustable noise gate on the input. I avoid this problem by having the G5 connected to a loop selector, so instead of putting the unit into bypass mode I'm literally bypassing the unit entirely when I step on the "Off" switch. |

It sounds like you would do best with the Korg G5. Great unit. |

Mine hasn't died on me in 4+ years (except when I used it on batteries for the first 2 weeks and couldn't figure out what was wrong )

One band I'm in does a bunch of 80s dance songs and I got to try it out last weekend, just using the presets I was able to cop a bunch of the synth bass sounds. I have the digi bsw too but can't find as many usable sounds on it but there are a few and a good octaver. I'm putting together a board now just for this band, an Akai Deep Impact, digi BSW, and digi chorus, all into a dc brick and mounted in a nycpedalboard lunchbox. |

| | | | Quite possible my favourite pedal ever... I LOVES muh G5 and baby it, because I'll probably never find another. What it does it does exceptionally well. I used to use it when a band I was in covered the Jamiroquai Live In Verona version of 'Canned Heat' - Waveform 2 absolutely NAILED that sound. Funky as hell.
Can't say I've tried a Deep Impact though...

CK | I've never used the TI personally, but I do run my bass (and my drum machine) through my buddy's Virus KB for certain effects, and it sounds fantastic. I know another guy who has a Virus KC, and he won't stop raving about it. Sounds like Access knows what they're doing and I'm sure the TI kicks booty as well. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
