Envelope filter and OD/Fuzz would probably get you fairly close.

Two pedals I can think of that would come close, are the Digitech Bass Synth Wah and EHX Bass Balls.

Yes, it has a "vocal" sound. Bassballs would be the easiest way, but not identical. The Korg G5 and Akai Deep Impact can also get a vowel sound. I'm not sure if there are other pedals that can.

can't listen to it right now, but daft punk is some crazy fools. Lots on synth, envelope filters, vocoders are a key part to their songs that I have heard. who knows what else those guys have... probably like 8 chaos pads lol

I was going to mention the Akai and the Korg, but it seemed a bit overkill if all the OP wants is something approximate to this one sound

My setup for getting Daft Punk sounds:

Propellerhead Reason 4.0
Novation ReMote 49 midi controller

Almost all of Daft Punk's stuff is digital nowadays. I've heard varying accounts of their live rig from 4 Moog Voyagers, to two laptops running reason and 4 or 5 midi controllers.

I just can't get anywhere near as pure of a sound when using bass synth pedals. My theory is that beyond just the note, all the string sound and characteristic tones of your bass go through the synth circuit so the outcome is a "synthy bass guitar" and not just a "synth bass." If you're just messing around, effects will be fine... but if you want to nail this sound on a regular basis, real synth is the only way to go.

I'd say the bass micro synth, by electro harmonix would get you close. But as already stated, you will still have a "bass guitar" component to your sound. I've tried the bassballs and some others but nothing is as responsive or tunable as the micro synth. It has a more hairy 70's vibe to it than the daft punk, but the square wave distortion and totally variable envelope filter will get you as close as anything out there in my opinion.

As far as I know, all the Nano range are True Bypass

Also, running 2 envelope filters into each other is a good way to get that "vowel" sound. Set the first one to filter downwards, the second to upwards, and then put a fuzz before them. I'll see if I can record a soundclip tonight running a Modded Big Muff into 2 Mutron III's.

Cheers

v-bass or

You can get a truckload of that synth tone and more with a v-bass.... but seriously I'd maybe use a compressor into mellow overdrive followed by an envelope with a follower...

I'm pretty certain that Daft Punk used a Digitech Bass Synth Wah on Human After All, in case you were looking to go that way. However, Short Circuit pre-dates the Homework album, as they used to play it as part of their live sets, so its probably a Juno or some other vintage synth.

Stick your bass through an octave pedal first, then the BMS. I think the "bass guitar" part is more to do with string attack and noise. I think a good gate would help a lot, but I haven't gone shopping for one myself yet.
