Synthesizers...

Is there any kind of synthesizer out there, similar to the Minimoog Voyager that has a 1/4" input and output? I'm tired of using "Synth" pedals...I'm about ready to use a real synthesizer for my synthy sounds.

I looked at the Minimoog voyager and all it had were MIDI in and out and the plugs for the keyboard. I know what I'm looking for exists SOMEWHERE, because my mother's officemate showed me his but from what he told me, the one he had is no longer in production.

The Minimoog has an external audio in... Not sure what it doesn't have that you'd need...

This will probably not help you, but LONG ago I had a Yamaha CS-5 that was AWESOME for filter effects- it had a boatload of in/out and other jacks. Out of production for many years, I see them on the bay for 4-5 bills...

It had an external audio in? Looked to me like it was some kind of output and an expression input, and it had the plug there to mount it to a keyboard--in addition to the stereo 1/4" outputs and the MIDI in and out.

I'm relatively sure the Little Phatty has an external in, as well.

I know that the Access Virus Kb that my band uses also has this. But t'is digital, and that bothers some people. Great filters, though.

The external in jack on keyboards (at least in Moog's case) don't trigger the oscillators in the synth, they just run external audio through the filters. Its' not all that useful.

^this...

Voyager owner here. The ext audio in is only used for filtering the signal. You would need a midi signal to control the oscillators.

Oh yeah, I mean I thought that went without saying. I still love to run my signal through the filter on the Virus, it's got a much different resonance than most pedal filters I've tried, and you can do all kinds of crazy things with the envelope generator controlling the filter. I think I love that mostly because I'm not a fan of the standard envelope-following filter sound. I'd much rather trigger a more pre-set envelope.

Most ANY current production synths will have `1/4" ins and outs, but as already mentioned, using the synth to process external devices is not in any way the same as playing the synth. If you really want to sound like a synthesizer, you'll need to get one, and play it using the (usually) attatched keyboard.
