Synthy fuzz that is great for active basses?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have what seems to have become the electronica bass effects standard of OC2/mf101 as well with some other stuff. I keep hearing that the woolly mammoth is the best thing as far as fuzzes go (in terms of this setup) but also that it doesn't work well with active basses.

Anyone have suggestions for an active bass (rnilson and johndavisnyc, i'm thinking you guys probably have a good idea)

Price isnt an issue, I was thinking maybe the brown dog but I really dont have much experience with fuzz pedals.

Yep, the Brown Dog would be an excellent choice!, I'd also take a look at the Red Ripper when it comes out

mammoth works fine with my fodera. i've always got my mammoth after a buffer anyway, so it's like an active signal....

i think that sometimes level is more important... if you have a super hot active, it might not be cool, but my preamp in the fodera is set to be unity gain with the passive signal...

My bass does seem to run fairly hot. I usually get orange and red on the fooger when the drive is only at about 11 oclock. I suppose I could try it out.

I've compared my Zvex Mastotron to Rnilson's Mammoth. Very similar tones. The Mammoth can get crazier, but I have my Copilot FX Orbit for that.

i second this.....

the separate fuzz and original signal volume knobs alone give you a wide array of possibilities.

then the other two knobs split between synth/gate and dist./fuzz make the pedal even more versatile. playing thru a musicman four string.

even with knobs turned down it adds a nice warmth to your sound. just a taste.

I'll throw in my vote for the Malekko B:Assmaster. The Silicon version is fantastic at getting synthy tones.

Definitely consider the Copilot Orbit. Great pedal.

I bought the Team Awesome because of this site. There may be a fuzz that you like. Has good reviews, pics and video.

+1 on the Team Awesome fuzz pedal.

I just picked one up a few weeks ago. Brian's made some changes to it. Sounds great!
