Les strikes me as the sort of guy who enjoys tinkering, so I doubt that's the case, although I imagine he could get away with it.

Yes that's the US guitar Big Muff Pi in the video. I've always found it gets lost in the drums personally. If anyone has any tips then let me know.

As for doing weird things with amps, guitar necks, etc....I dunno though you gotta try these things yourself at least once. Even if you end up looking a little silly on Youtube in the process.

I was under the impression that tubes are fragile enough without subjecting them to medieval torture.

mind you we are talking about someone with three ampegs, one of which costs more than my car, amp and cab put together. So what the hell do I know?
Oh dear I just made myself a little sad

Aside from removing fingerprints, grease and dirt in general. That does make sense since tubes get damn hot when the amp is cooking, so i think it's all done to avoid damage.

Well I dig Timmy C's playing and tone, and I honestly don't think his tone is all that mystical. I may not get 100%, but I could get very close with a SansAmp, which to me, makes his attempts to hide the secret magic pixie dust he uses to get his tone seem all the more absurd.

Then he goes and grabs it with his bare hand to put it in the amp, so I don't think he's doing it to get rid of fingerprints.

2 more questions (and yes, i did read almost all Tim C. related threads) ...

1. saw that Boss OC-2 (or 3?) pedal on his boards ... in which songs does he use that (live/album)?

2. when he plays live ... how many channels on the mixing board does he use? maybe 6 (3 x D.I. + 3 x mic)?

Whatever bass he plays, whatever gear he uses, brother brings it and crushes.
He's probably the most inspirational and influential bassist for me.

As the first example off the top of my head, the bridge section of "No Shelter" is almost definitely the OC-2.

Hey guys.

I don't know if anyone is still reading this, but i didn't want to start a new thread.

On the Sound City DVD there's some bonus material with Tim C, Brad Wilk and Grohl recording "Time Slowing Down".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zICfYRsSwxM

At about 0:25 there are some very good shots of Tims Pedalboard. Looks much like the setup posted earlier, except for the Boss octave has been replaced with an EHX POG2 and there's another EHX early in the chain which i can't identify. Maybe it's the Electric Mistress or the Octave Multiplexer.

So yeah, just in case someone is interested.

Have a nice day!

Edit: Seems like there's a MXR Bass Comp on there as well.

Another that I can think of off the top of my head is: I'm Housin. He's using it in the chorus.
