Timefactor - First Delay?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've never been a proponent of delay on bass and have steered clear of delay pedals for as long as I've been using effects as a bassist. I do however have both of the other Eventide pedals, sold plenty of gear to buy them, and can honestly say that I think they're a fantastic value. Now that I'm comfortable with using the MP-201 to control both pedals (as well as my Moog gear), I'm getting fantastic sounds that I wouldn't have been able to achieve otherwise, instant switching from one to another, and simultaneous expression control.

My guitarist friend recently picked up a Timefactor for a touch more than $300. He let me borrow it for a few hours and I have to say, I was very surprised and impressed at how easy it was to work into my synth rig. I loved some of TF/MF combinations I was able to dial in. Aguilar Octamizer->Brown Dog/Orbit->BMS set as a filter->MF->MF yielded a ton of amazing results. For example, I set the MF to low depth triangle wave tremolo subdivided into triplets, while the TF was set to about 70% dry, 30% wet, and was reverse delaying on eighth notes. Awesome polyrhythmic effect, especially when I swapped the ratios just my moving from heel to toe position on the MP-201!

I've been liquidating some rack equipment that I don't need and I think I'd be able to afford the TF. For those of you here that have it, what's your take on it?

My guitarist uses a TF for his delay, and it is the best, most transparent delay I have heard... As well as being the most artificial colored delay (A Good Thing!!!).

I say go for it. Resale value is high, so you won't miss much if you don't like it, and with the other 2 Pedals... You will find some crazy stuff to make happen.

I'm looking at picking up a TimeFactor early next year. I have a DL4 which a really like but I'd like to be able to sync the tempo on as many of my pedals as possible.

I love my ModFactor and I imagine the TF would be just as versatile.

If you're going to have all 3, what about just grabbing an Eventide mutli rack unit? I see H3000s for <$1k all the time on CL.

The Timefactor was my first delay. Since then I've added the other two and am thrilled to have all three 'factors. I actually think the TF having many options is a strength for a first-of-type pedal because the user may not be sure exactly how he wants to apply the general concept of delay. The same applies to the MF.

And I agree that, perhaps despite the initial sticker shock many experience, these pedals are actually great values. Especially to a user willing to integrate with MIDI.

To Onion: I am now at the point where I am starting to get the rack 'itch'... and would love to next year trade up to an Eventide with sampling and Vsig support. But if I could have told myself this two years ago, I wouldn't have believed it!

Think of it this way. If you start with the biggest and baddest that does everything, you'll atleast learn what features are important to you in a delay pedal.

They are superb, I'm using mine in a similar way, hooked up to an MP-201. Get it.

It's arguably the best sounding digital delay pedal on the market, and it has a 48 second looper.

It's perfectly tweakable and does just about everything a delay can do (even though it's not analog and doesn't have the same hold feature as the Pigtronix Echolution)

If you want a high end delay...go for it.

If you want another option that's cheaper...find out what you want from a delay pedal and downsize (or just go straight to the Boss DD series)
